Zimbabwe’s senate president Edna Madzongwe has been accused of forcing White farmer, Peter Etheredge and his family off their farm Stockdale in Chegutu. “We have been off this farm for more than a month. We were forced out by Mrs Madzongwe,” he told reporters.
There has been a reported increase in violence against white farmers and cases of new farm invasions. Is this how these Zanu Pf officials intend to rebuild Zimbabwe? Is this how they intend to attract foreign investment? Zimbabwe can not afford these new farm invasions, especially at this critical time in the recovery of the country.
At a time when the new government of national unity should be working hard to rebuild Zimbabwe’s battered image, improving the country’s attractiveness to foreign investors, enemies of development in Zimbabwe have started a new wave of farm invasions. Could this be part of Zanu Pf policy? If so then we are doomed, forget about economic recovery.
According to Edna Madzongwe’s daughter, the government had authorised them to take the farm, saying Madzongwe has the offer letter for the farm.
“The offer letter was given to my mother (Madzongwe) in 2007. Etheredge opened the gate for us. We haven’t moved on to the farm, nothing is happening here we are just assessing what is here,” she said.“My mother is considered as one of the top law officers in the country. My mother is not in the habit of breaking the law.”
Say the government gave Madzongwe this farm in 2007, do they really want us to believe all these years before 2007 Madzongwe did not have a farm, when other Zanu PF officials had more than one farms. These people will continue to destroy the country whilst we are watching.
Meanwhile Zimbabwe deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara vowed to act against illegal farm invasions.
“There will be no holy cows. The axe will hit where it may and we will not tolerate any government official who is prolonging lawlessness in the country,” Mutambara said while leading a government team in Chegutu.
For us to have a better Zimbabwe and attract the all important foreign investment, these farm invasions have to stop. In fact I wonder if Zanu Pf is committed to the unity government and rebuilding Zimbabwe.
But why is it that Zanu Pf officials continue to get more farms whilst the majority of Zimbabweans get nothing?
