Zimbabwean Refugees Squatting In South Africa – Is this better than going back to Zimbabwe

Zimbabwean refugees and thousands other foreigners squat in abandoned buildings in downtown Johannesburg, South Africa. So sad to see our fellow Zimbabweans living in these conditions after running away from the ruins of our own Zimbabwe in search of a better life in South Africa.

But, is it better to be a squatter in South Africa living under such conditions than to go back to Zimbabwe? Our politicians are telling us life is getting back to normal in Zimbabwe.

It was reported that over US$300 000 was spend on birthday celebrations whilst people are running away from the poverty in the country. We expect better from our political leaders.

In a few weeks time, Zimbabweans will be celebrating Independence Day.

Are we independent when we are forced to be economic refugees in different countries of the world?

What independence will these refugees squatting in South Africa celebrate?

This week Robert Mugabe celebrated 30 years in power. It has been reported that he will stand again for re-election if the Zanu PF congress wants him to.

But is this in the best interest of Zimbabwe and its citizens?

Is it better to be a squatter in South Africa than go back to Zimbabwe?
