It’s not funny at all, this is about survival and satisfying your cravings! The shortage of meat is now causing people to spend time hunting for mice in urban areas. Meat is one of the delicacies that our people want to see every day on the table. Now thanks to the price controls there is nothing in the shops and the mouse has got to pay the price.
A long time ago people used to survive on eating mice and other wild animals. This is coming back again. Some mouse hunters do it for business, there is big business for it in the Beer halls. For some it’s about having food on the table, it is tough being the head of the family in Zimbabwe today.
Even if you want to work for the family, there are no jobs. If you get the job, the wages are not worth talking about. With such high levels of inflation, the bearer cheques can not buy anything meaningful if it was there in the shops. There is nothing in the shops.
More companies are going to shut down, the people who work in supermarkets will be jobless. Production companies will close down, who is going to pay for the child’s school fees. Is the child going to learn and do well on an empty stomach?
