Zimbabwe is bracing for a tourist influx. Zimbabwe hotels and tour operators might fail to accomodate all the tourists from the far east after the troubled country was declared ‘a must visit’ destination by the Chinese Tourism Authority.
If the tourist from the far east do come, tat will be a massive boost to our trouble economy. It’s in real need of that kick start that will boost the foreign currency reserves. Shortage of foreign currency has been one of the major problems facing the country.
However the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority will need to make sure that, the facilities are at acceptable top quality standards. Promote the country’s image through different initiatives to attract tourists to Zimbabwe.
Their maybe other actors working against the Tourism Authority’s efforts to improve the country’s image, but they need to do a lot more. They need to come up with incentives which will make Zimbabwe an attractive destination. With the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, there is need to do more in this tourism sector.
Zimbabwe has got it’s economic problems but there is no security threat to tourists. It’s safe to visit Zimbabwe. Tourists from different countries visit some countries poorer than Zimbabwe, so our economic situation should not really stop tourists from visiting Zimbabwe.
