Zimbabwe Presidential Election Run-Off set for June 27

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has announced that the delayed Zimbabwe presidential election run-off will be held on June 27. The opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) hope oust veteran leader Robert Mugabe after almost 30 years in power.
“A poll shall be taken on the Friday the 27th of June, 2008, for the purpose of electing the person for the office of the president,” a notice in the government gazette said.

The second round of elections follows a disputed March 29 election in which Morgan Tsvangirai of the Movement for Democratic change (MDC) defeated Robert Mugabe, but failed to get the majority 50 percent of the total vote.
