Zimbabwe PM Morgan Tsvangirai attends meeting with the Generals

Zimbabwe Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has attended the first security council meeting held since he formed the government of national unity with Robert Mugabe in February. Tsvangirai sat with the generals who had previously vowed not to work with him, at the meeting which was chaired by President Robert Mugabe.

The meeting was also attended by vice president Joyce Mujuru and ministers of defence, home affairs and security.

“It was very warm, very cordial and very inclusive. Everybody who spoke, spoke on the centrality of national interest as the most important aspect of our nationhood,” State Security Minister Sydney Sekeramayi said.

President Mugabe and Prime Minister Tsvangirai say they are working well together in the government of national unity. However there are still disputes over the appointment of some key state officials and also the arrests of MDC MPs.

It is important that Mugabe and Tsvangirai work together, in the best interest of re-building Zimbabwe. We need political stability in the country, rule of law and democracy. The lifting of the reporting ban on the BBC is a welcome development, and other media organisations should also be allowed to report freely and legally from Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile a Harare magistrate court on Thursday remanded in custody MDC Deputy Youth Minister Thamsanqa Mahlangu, who is facing charges of stealing a mobile phone belonging to Joseph Chinotimba ‘Cde Chinoz’ of the war veterans association.

The Generals said they will never salute Morgan Tsvangirai……hmmmm! A lesson never to say never in life, you never know what’s around the corner.
