Zimbabwe begins verification of presidential election 2008 results

I think finally we are a step closer to getting the presidential results. Officials began verifying the results of the March 29 elections on Thursday. Meaning we are a step closer to getting the results. The long delay in releasing the results has raised fears of increased violence and the opposition MDC has accused the government of trying to rig the election results.

Verification of the results taking place at the Harare International Conference Centre is meant to ensure all candidates are happy with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s figures. However whether we are going to get the result soon, is still another matter this depends on whether the two parties agree.

“This process can take a day, a week, even two weeks. It depends on whether we can agree and can tally our figures,” said Chris Mbanga, Morgan Tsvangirai’s representative at the vote verification.
