Fourteen people are reported to have been killed and another 111 injured on Zimbabwe’s roads since the beginning of the Heroes and Defence forces Holidays. Police spokesman, Superintendent Andrew Phiri is quoted in the Chronicle saying a total of 114 accidents were recorded countrywide between Friday and Monday, with Harare recording the highest number of 32.
Four fatalities were reported in Harare, two people died near the entrance to the Heroes’ Acre when their Toyota Hilux truck rammed into the back of a bus.
Supt Phiri said most of the deaths were caused by speeding and negligent driving. “Harare had 32 accidents, followed by Bulawayo with 17 and Manicaland 15. There were 14 accidents in the Midlands province, 10 in Mashonaland West, 9 in Matebeleland South while Masvingo and Mashonaland East recorded 6 accidents each.
