The state controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting (ZBC) TV has said two Zanu PF supporters were shot dead by suspected Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) supporters in Mutoko. The opposition MDC has denied any involvement in the shooting.
There has been a lot of politically motivated violence in Zimbabwe ever since the March 29 elections. The opposition MDC claims 50 of their supporters have been killed by Zanu PF supporters. According to ZBC, “Suspected MDC supporters shot and killed two Zanu PF women’s league members in Mutoko…….raising fears that they could have been targeted as the MDC intensifies it’s campaign to intimidate ruling party supporters.”
Whether there were any killings in Mutoko, it will be very difficult to believe given ZBC’s biased and propaganda reporting. The state controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation has a history of going out of it’s way to campaign for the ruling party.
So, it may not be a surprise if this is another attempt to gain political mileage for Robert Mugabe ahead of the June 27 vote.
