For the past two weeks I have been consumed by the circus of the Zimbabwe elections. I forgot to write about one Zimbabwean who is flying the Zimbabwe flag high. Four times the Zimbabwe national athem was played in Manchester, thanks to the efforts of Kirsty Coventry the swimming sensation from Zimbabwe. Kirsty won four gold medals at the recent world swimming championships in Manchester, England.
Zimbabwe finished fourth on the medals table ahead of other countries like Britain and Russia all because of Kirsty’s efforts.
At the 2004 Athens olympics she won three medals, one gold, silver and a bronze medal. And at the coming Beijing olympics she will be carrying Zimbabwe’s medal hopes again.
How I wish Zimbabwe could be making full use of the positive publicity she is creating for the country!
Congratulations to Kirsty Conventry and I wish her the best in her future competions.
