The just ended Zimbabwe International Trade Fair has been hailed a huge success. ZITF board chairman Mr Nhlanhla Masuku said he was impressed by the quality of the exhibitions and also the quality of the products. “We are beginning to see the affirmation of the indeginisation of the economy which is now largely run by Zimbabweans,” said Mr Masuku. The theme of the fair this year was ” Made in Zimbabwe for Africa and the World.
“ZITF A Big Success” was the leader article on the government owned Sunday Mail. But reading the article, there was nothing at all in it to show that the fair was a success.
In fact the article was all about complains by Mr Nhlanhla Masuku complaining about hotels over charging their customers to cash in on the ‘popular’ international event.
A bottle of coca cola costs $90 million (about £0.30) in a hotel, is it that expensive then considering a newspaper now costs $100 million.
Instead of just complaining, I think you should be telling us the real reasons why few and few exhibitors are coming to the fair each year. You should tell us why the number of visitors is also falling? Not that we already don’t know, but at least you should be pointing the blame where it lies.
Minister of Industry and International Trade, Obert Mpofu dubbed it the “Pride of African Trade”. No way Mr Minister when only exhibitors from Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa and Tanzania so it fit to come. Not even all the members of SADC so it fit to exhibit this this you call pride of Africa fair.
“Zimbabwe is not for sale and it will never be a colony again” this seem to be a popular phrase in Zimbabwe with our dear leader these days. BUT who is selling Zimbabwe? If say someone is selling it, will anyone be prepared to buy this country? Maybe I will try selling it on Ebay and see if anyone is prepared to bid for it.
However like every other Zimbabwean I would also want to see things changing in Zimbabwe. We can’t go on and on like this, one day our troubles shall come to pass and even the trade fair will be a big success again. Even these people like the ZITF board chairman wish for change that’s why they lie about the things on the ground.
But for now maybe they should call it the Zimbabwe International Trade Failure.
In God We Trust.
