SADC leaders meeting in Swaziland have agreed to lobby for and help support a finance plan to rebuild Zimbabwe’s economy and help tackle the humanitarian crisis in the country.
The SADC group is not a group of rich countries with the exception of South Africa which also has got economic problems of it’s own. So where is this money going to come from? From the Western World?

Here is more from a report at bloomerbag.com:

Southern African leaders agreed to lobby for and help finance a plan costing between $8 billion and $10 billion to rebuild Zimbabwe’s economy after a decade-long recession and tackle its humanitarian crisis.

The plan, drawn up by Zimbabwean officials, calls for $2 billion in “short-term relief,” South African Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma told reporters near Swaziland’s capital Mbabane today, where leaders of the Southern African Development Community, a 15-nation regional grouping, are meeting.

Zimbabwe’s economy has imploded, with at least 6.9 million people, or more than half the population, needing food aid and 94 percent with no formal employment, according to the United Nations, while the inflation rate rose to as high as 231 million percent last year. President Robert Mugabe’s ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front party and the opposition Movement for Democratic formed a power-sharing government last month and asked donors to resume aid.

“We were able to come up with an undertaking that in two weeks time we should come back with concrete measures we would take,” Nhlanhla Nene, South Africa’s deputy finance minister, told reporters. “In principle, all countries have undertaken to support in whatever way they could, in kind and also to assist in lobbying for support.”

SADC leaders will face an uphill battle to drum up support, with most Western donors saying they want to see that Zimbabwe’s new government is functioning effectively before they are prepared to assist it.

Is this a bit of an ambitious plan by the SADC leaders? Will they be able to come up with the kind of money needed for the recovery of the Zimbabwean economy? And from where will they get the money? From the western countries, that’s why we need a new Zimbabwe brand.
