A PREGNANT Londoner faces death by the firing squad after she was caught smuggling drugs in Laos. Samantha Orobator 20, will be executed if she is found guilty at a hastily arranged trial. Samantha had been on holiday in Thailand where she has been held since her arrest at the notorious Phonthong prison, where inmates have complained of being beaten and abused.

The 20 year old from Camberwell, south London was arrested in August as she got on a flight to Bangok at Wattay Airport in Laos after 680g of heroin was found in her suitcase. She told customs officials the drugs were not hers.

Samantha has since became pregnant whilst in prison and is due to give birth in early September. But how did she became pregnant whilst in prison??

It seems there is no respect for human rights in Thailand. Since her arrest, Samantha has had no access to a lawyer and her only contact with the outside world has been a 20 minute monthly visit from the Embassy officials.

Whatever happened, it’s so sad the way this girl is being treated. Something should be done and the British government should be doing more to help this girl have a fair trial.

Reprieve legal director Clive Stafford Smith said her trial had been brought forward after arrangements were made for her to see a lawyer for the first time.

He has called on the British Government to intervene on her behalf.

At a press conference in central London, he said: “It’s absolutely no coincidence that yesterday the Laotians announced that they were moving her trial up probably by a year to next week.

“It’s pretty shocking that they would do that apparently to avoid her seeing a British lawyer before she has to go to trial.

“The notion that no lawyer should be appointed to defend her is outrageous.”

Something should be done to stop this inhumane, unfair and cruel treatment of this girl. God help her.
