Operation! Operation! Operation! welcome to the land of operations.
Yes yet another ‘Operation’, yet more problems. Welcome to the country of operations.
Years back I had of Operation Chinyavada, this was targeted at women in pubs. Most were rounded up and taken to a farm far away from town, probably so they could work instead of drinking beer. I’m told this caused a drop in beer sales and soon the women were back in pubs and everyone lived happily ever after.
A couple of months ago, we had Operation Murambatsvina aimed at making the country cleaner. This was similar to one operation which saw families bundled into trucks in the middle of the night sometime from Mbare Musika because we had special visitors coming. Who would want to show that ugly side of things to special visitors. This again created more problems than solutions. But I would say the country is a bit cleaner though.
But who encouranged people to build those ‘Tangwena house’ as they were populaly
known.
There was ‘Operation Garikai’ meant to give better accomodation to those affected by operation Murambatsvina. If this was a success then the people will testify. What I know is this pushed house prices up both for rentals and to buy. Just ask my fellow lodgers.
Then there was also Operation Maguta (meant to bring enough food on the table). Remember we are talking of the bread busket of Africa here. The country used to produce enough for everyone, and enough to export to our neighbouring brothers. A lot has happened over the years.
Was ‘Operation Maguta’ a success? Let the people will testify.
Now ‘Operation Slash Prices’,a price freeze. As if not enough, business still have to reduce the current prices. Well this may help, because (zvanga zvanyanya) it was getting out of hand, that is if you belive it was already in the hand.
Well I think business has also responded with their own operation,
‘OPERATION EMPTY SHELVES’.
If all these operations were not a success, why do we still have all these operations coming. Did the price freeze make things better? Are things going to get better? Yes dora rave kutenga, but uno tenga mhepo here?
So what will be the next operation.
