Zimbabwe’s Unity government is reported to be rocked by quarrels over reforms and sanctions, and there is no trust between Zanu Pf and MDC. In fact there is more competition than co-operation. Zanu Pf Ministers walked out of a government meeting when they were told by Deputy Prime Minister Mutambara that last years’ elections were fraudulent. They never like to be told the truth these Zanu Pf people? With all this constant fighting what are the chances of economic recovery in Zimbabwe?

Mugabe and Zanu Pf were used to having so much power and now fear of losing some of that power to Morgan Tsvangirai. Whilst Morgan Tsvangirai expected to gain meaningful power when he agreed to join Robert Mugabe, but that does not seem to be happening. Co-operation was always going to be difficult in Zimbabwe’s inclusive government. Some people can never be trusted.

“The MDC’s frustration is their discovery now that they don’t have all the power they thought they would get in this government,” said Lovemore Madhuku, chairman of political pressure group National Constitutional Assembly.

“On the other hand, ZANU-PF is also discovering that they have to do some things differently,” he said. “There is some sense of paralysis in the whole government in terms of moving the economy in the big way that the MDC was talking about before getting into the government.”

Robert Mugabe and Zanu Pf have been in power since independence in 1980, but what do we have after all those years under the Zanu Pf leadership? Pot-holed roads, record levels of unemployment, hunger, health system is in a mess, in fact the whole public sector is in a mess.

Zanu PF is now putting pressure on Morgan Tsvangirai to ask the European Union and other Western countries for the removal of travel restrictions on their(Zanu Pf) and families, so they can go globe trotting wasting government money on shopping sprees.

As long as the infighting between Zanu Pf and the MDC continues, we can forget about Zimbabwe’s economic recovery.
