Murder on Zimbabwe’s roads: 11 People died in an accident on the Harare-Chinhoyi highway

Killer Zimbabwe roads! In one month 79 people have been killed in major accidents on ZImbabwe’s killer roads.

Eleven people are reported to have died on the spot in an accident along the Harare-Chinhoyi highway. The accident involving a ZUPCO bus and a truck happened near Banket on Monday night.

According to a newsnet report: ZRP Assistant Inspector Mazivisa Chikosha, said the accident occurred when the driver of the CAM truck attempted to overtake a T 35 truck which suddenly stopped behind a stationary lorry forcing the driver on to the oncoming lane where he collided with the ZUPCO bus traveling to Harare.

On impact the ZUPCO bus overturned and dragged along the CAM truck into a ravine. It was carrying seven passengers.

All those who died were in the CAM truck. One person also in the CAM truck was seriously injured in the accident.

Seven of the deceased are reported to be members of the same family….how sad!

The accident comes after an August road carnage that has seen the loss of 39 lives in the Mhunga bus disaster on the 2nd of August, the Musanhi bus disaster in Mt Darwin which claimed 17 lives on the 9th of August and another commuter bus accident near Rusape on the 4th of August which caused the death of 12 people.

It is time something is done to these Zimbabwe ‘killer roads’. The government should do more to remove all dangerous vehicles(death traps) from the country’s roads. How many more people have got to die before the government realise that there is a major problem on our roads???

We all know that some of the vehicles on Zimbabwe’s roads belong to the recycling plants, they are not fit to carry people…….where is the Vehicle Inspection Department??????
