Mixed views over Kirsty Coventry’s US$100 000 handshake from Mugabe

The US$100 000 awarded to Kirsty Coventry by the Zimbabwe government has generated a lot of debate in forums and in the blog sphere. Kirsty Coventry was given the US$100 000 golden handshake by Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe for her efforts at the just ended Beijing Olympics where she won 4 medals (1 Gold and 3 Silver).

Was Robert Mugabe right to given Kirsty US$100 000?

Kirsty was the only member of the Zimbabwe Olympic team to get a medal from the Beijing Olympics.

People seem to be asking the morality of giving such a large sum of money US$100 000 of public money, whilst the majority of Zimbabweans are living in poverty. Was it a bit misguided on he part of the government like some seem to be suggesting?

However some have supported Kirsty’s golden handshake, that was some performance from her at the Beijing Olympics. She was outstanding in the swimming pool.

Whatever people have said Kirsty is a great competitor, true ambassador of Zimbabwe sport and I think the best ever Zimbabwean Olympian. Respect!!

With all the villagers starving in Zimbabwe, I think this is wrong. So if you want to eat you have to win Gold medals?

Plus where did Mugabe get all that foreign currency from?

Zimbabwe’s economy is in crisis because of a shortage of foreign currency and suddenly Mugabe has got all the forex!

    This is crazy!
