Media Laws to be relaxed in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe’s unity government will relax the country’s tight media restrictions as part of the 100 day action plan. Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa says there should be a “multiplicity of media houses” reflecting divergent views, according to the Herald newspaper.

Chinamasa was speaking at the end of the weekend retreat in Victoria Falls, between Zanu Pf and the Movement for Democratic Change. The Unity government also agreed to re-engage the broader international community including the United States and multilateral institutions.

This is a positive move and in line with creating a new Zimbabwe brand, a brand that is attractive to international investors. As for media laws it was time those draconian laws created by the Zanu Pf government were removed.
