MDC wants AU and SADC to sort out problems in Zimbabwe’s Unity government

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has invited the African Union(AU) and SADC to help break the deadlock in the Unity government with Robert Mugabe’s Zanu Pf.

Prime Minister Tsvangirai said the MDC is committed to the power sharing agreement, but wanted to see more respect for civil rights, rule of law and political reconciliation.

In a statement, the MDC says “The transitional government should urgently deal with issues of governance, national healing, democratisation and the rule of law. MDC supporters and human rights activists are still being persecuted in Zimbabwe today. Some have cases pending in the courts for allegedly plotting to oust Robert Mugabe.
