Let the Olympics Games begin!

Beijing Olympics, hailed as the most ambitious in history were officially opened today with the most spectacular opening ceremony. A TV audience of about 3 billion watched as 35 000 fireworks were pumped into the sky.
Games spokesman Sun Weide said: “We hope this will be the greatest ever Olympics.”

The ceremony began at precisely 8.08pm on 08/08/08, the luckiest moment of the Chinese calendar.

Now it’s time to let the games be a sporting event and not a political issue. There maybe political issues to do with China, but isn’t it best not to mix politics with sports?

There has also been a lot of noise made regarding the pollution in Beijing, well some commentators have also highlighted that the smog in Los Angels was bad but the media did not report about it. So probably it’s just time to let the athletes show their talents.

It was nice to see our Zimbabwe represented at the official opening ceremony, even though our President, Robert Mugabe did not attend. It was reported a few days back that he was not welcome at the Beijing Olympics.

Lets hope we get something out of these games. Good luck to all athletes, if we don’t win anything….representing Zimbabwe is still good enough.
