HIV+ Zimbabwean asylum seeker bit police officer in the head

A Zimbabwean asylum seeker feared to be HIV positive bit a Northumbria police officer in the head after being arrested for drink driving. Mlungisi Moyo 31, lunged from the back seat of a police patrol car and bit the officer on the head after being arrested in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear as he tried to escape.

Moyo also attempted to grab the steering wheel and hand brake causing the car to brake sharply.
The police officers involved will have to wait until July to know if they were not infected with HIV and also Hepatitis B, which Moyo also carries.

Mlungisi Moyo of Halifax, West Yorkshire pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer, drink-driving and driving with no licence or insurance.
He was given three two month jail terms and a three and half year driving ban.
