Gwanda residents face starvation as Zanu PF councilors are accused of stealing maize

Zimbabwe, can we trust the Zanu PF government to feed the country?
Hundreds of households in Gwanda are said to be facing starvation this month after outgoing Zanu PF councilors reportedly shared among themselves a maize allocation meant for their ward last week.

According to The Standard, the diversion of 200 bags of maize from the Grain Marketing Board(GMB) by the Zanu PF pfficials was exposed when the new councilor for Enyandeni, Leonard Sibindi of the Arthur Mutambara led MDC, went to collect grain on behalf of villagers in his ward.

The diversion of maize is said to be prevalent in the drought prone Matebeleland South region. Some of the maize is said to have been given to those misguided elements who masquerade as ‘war-veterans’.
The self-styled war veterans are still camped at Zanu PF bases that were set up during Robert Mugabe’s re-election campaign.

Greedy Zanu PF officials Starve villagers

“There is serious starvation in the province, especially in Gwanda South where people are resorting to eating porridge made from baobab fruits and roots from a tree known as Mutopi.” said Petros Mukwena, the MDC Matebeleland South provincial secretary. “The little that comes in terms of grain or under BACOSSI(the government’s food hamper scheme) is snatched by Zanu PF politicians.

Matebeleland South was declared a disaster area after a government assessment last year. The food situation in Matebeleland South is said to have also worsened over the last two months following the government’s ban on Aid Agencies.

Can we trust the Zanu PF government to feed the country? No way Jose! The only way is to get rid of the corrupt people.
