Mhunga Bus Service has lost it’s permit to operate. Zimbabwe government has withdrawn Mhunga Bus Service’s operating permit following an accident that killed 40 people and left several injured in an accident on the Harare-Masvingo highway on Sunday.
Newsnet reports that the decision to withdraw Mhunga Bus Service operating permit was announced by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Infrastructural Development Nicholas Goche when he visited the scene of the accident.
“During my new term in the ministry of Transport it is sad to note Mhunga buses have claimed over 73 people in three months, it is against this background that my ministry has, after conducting extensive assessments on accidents involving Mhunga buses concluded to finally withdraw the operating permit.
“ We are instituting an inquiry to find (out) whether the company workshops and buses meet the required standards,” said Cde Goche.
Minister Goche attribute the accident to negligence on the part of the driver who is alledged to have been speeding. The driver is detained at Beatrice Police Station.
