Government suspends Zimbabwe Dollar for one year

Finally no more wasting paper printing those valueless Zimbabwe dollars. The Zimbabwe government has suspended the use of the local currency for one year as the new Unity government focuses on rebuilding the country’s shattered economy. In January the government allowed the use of US dollars and South African Rands in an effort to control the hyperinflation which had left the Zimbabwean dollar worthless.

“The Zimbabwe dollar will be out for at least a year ….because there is nothing to support and hold its value,” Economic Planning Minister Elton Mangoma told the Sunday Mail.

We surely hope the efforts of the unity government will get the economy moving again. Proper management of the country’s resources will be important in rebuilding Zimbabwe, we need to see our Zimbabwean dollar in use again.
