Ecosan Toilets: Low-cost technology for sanitation helping Zimbabwe’s poor communities

Zimbabwe has in the last few months been severely affected by the cholera outbreak which was largely due to lack of clean water and proper sanitation facilities in the poor communities. This post is about the great work being done by Practical Action and Unicef’s Bellapaisie Ecological Sanitation Project in Epworth, Zimbabwe.

Epworth is a poor peri-urban settlement on the outskirts of Harare. The area has a very high prevalence of diseases such as TB and HIV/AIDS. And with a lack of proper sanitation facilities the community will be affected by even more health problems.

These low cost facilities will definately improve the standard of life for the poor communities like Epworth.
