Benjani Mwaruwari set to join Hull City

Hull City have agreed a fee with Manchester City for Zimbabwe captain Benjani Mwaruwari, according to Sky Sports. Benjani is now set to move to Hull rather than his former Premier League club Portsmouth, with whom he has been heavily linked this summer. Benjani appears to have no future at Manchester City where he has failed to make even the bench after the summer spending spree by City.

Benjani has scored six times for Manchester City since moving to Eastlands in January 2008.

Meanwhile Nigeria’s Kano Pillars have expressed confidence they will be awarded three points by the Confideration of African Football (CAF) following their protest against the eligibility of former Dynamos strike Edward Sadomba, who played against them in a Champions League match.

‘We are very confident of winning this protest because we have established a very good case against Al Hilal and we know a credible organisation like CAF will be fair, and justice will be done in our favour,’ Adamu said.

‘We played the match in Sudan against them under protest, and within the allowed 48 hours we put across a formal protest to CAF and paid the protest fee. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), through secretary general Bolaji Ojo-oba, also sent a backing letter to Cairo.’

Monomotapa falls to TP Mazembe of DRC

Zimbabwe’s Monomotapa lost 2-0 to TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) in a Group B game of the African Champions league played at Rufaro Stadium in Harare. TP Mazembe scored through their captain Dioko Kaluyituka and Mbutu Mabi.

After three defeats in the group stages Monomotapa’s chances of progressing to the CAF Champions League semi-finals are as good as over. They will need a miracle if they are to progress to the semis.

Meanwhile Highlanders comes to Harare to face CAPS United at Rufaro in a fixture which promises fireworks. Championship favourites Dynamos ‘DeMbare’ will be in Mutare for their match against Highway at Sakubva Stadium.

Heath Streak appointed Zimbabwe Cricket Coach

Former Zimbabwe cricket captain, Heath Streak has been appointed as Zimbabwe’s new bowling coach. Streak said it was a ‘great honour’ to be back on board. “I am looking forward to being part of the vision to re-build Zimbabwe as a powerful cricket playing nation. I have amassed a wealth of knowledge during my international career and look forward to imparting this knowledge onto Zimbabwe’s up and coming talent.”

“We’ve been talking to Heath for some time and now that the modalities of his relationship with ZC have been concluded, we have every confidence that his presence in the changing rooms can only be good for the development of our national team,” Ozias Bvute, Zimbabwe Cricket’s chief executive, said. “A lot has been said and done in the past but the fact is that Heath has made an undisputable contribution to the game of cricket in Zimbabwe and is perhaps the finest bowler this country has had to date. We have collectively agreed to draw a line in the sand and allow for cricket to be the winner.”

Hull City targets Benjani Mwaruwari

Hull City are reported to be interested in taking Zimbabwe captain Benjani on a season long loan from Manchester City.

The News of the World reports that Hull City boss Phil Brown wants Benjani to lead the attacking line at the KC stadium next season. With all the big names that have signed for Manchester City like, Carlos Tevez, Roque Santa Cruz and Emmanuel Adebayor, Benjani’s place is under serious threat.

But what are Benjani’s chances of playing premiership football if he stays on at Mancester City?

I think Benjani will be better off if he moves to Hull City, at least he will get the chance to show off his talent.

Benjani Mwaruwari to re-join Pompey?

Zimbabwe football captain Benjani Mwaruwari says he would relish the chance to return to Portsmouth. The Zimbabwe international has struggled to make an impact at Manchester City, mainly due to injuries. Recent reports have also linked him with a move to Stoke City. However Benjani has suggested that he may prefer to return to Portsmouth if City decide to sell him.

“I have good memories and I have a special relationship with the Portsmouth supporters,” he said in The News.

“I left on a good note and I have nothing but good feelings about them, that’s for sure.

“I’d love to play for them again, but at the moment I’m contracted to Manchester City.

“I have a job to do here until I’m told anything else.

“There is a lot of talk about my future, but at the moment I’m still a Manchester City player.

“Obviously there is always speculation in football, though. I am happy to stay unless the club declare they do not want me anymore.

“In football, you never know what is around the corner.”

Moving from Manchester City will probably be in the best interest of Benjani. With the mega bucks at City and big name stars set to come in, his opportunities will be very limited next season. I wish him all the best in the coming season, hope he will get the opportunity to show his talent.

Zimbabwe set to fire Warriors coach

Result: Namibia 4 Zimbabwe 2

The Zimbabwe Football Association(ZIFA) is set to fire national football team coach, Jose Valinhos after the Warriors failed to qualify for both the Africa Cup of Nations and the SA World Cup 2010. Zimbabwe lost a must win game to Namibia over the weekend.

Zimbabwe were favourites to go through from group two at the beginning of the tournament, but crushed out after a humiliating defeat to Namibia in Windhoek. Zimbabwe needed an outright victory to qualify as one of the best runner-ups.

A Zifa official has said that the association will meet this week and discuss on what course of action to take over Valinhos.

Speaking to KickOff, a ZIFA official said: “We are yet to decide what to do with him, but I think the time has come for us to re-shuffle the technical department, for the good of the Warriors.

“Remember that we have also dropped tremendously on the Fifa rankings since the current coach took over,” the official added.
