Roy Bennett Acquitted On Charges Of Plotting To Overthrow Robert Mugabe

Roy Bennett of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has been acquitted of terrorism charges.

Judge Muchineripi Bhunu ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove that the alleged link between Roy Bennett and a convicted arms dealer was genuine.

“The state has failed to prove its case,” judge Muchineripi Bhunu told a packed courtroom as he dismissed the charges. “The accused is accordingly found not guilty.”

Zimbabwe At 30

Today we celebrate 30 years of independence, for some of us the celebrations started yesterday and today is the climax of what has been massive weekend.

So, what is this day all about?

Zimbabwe News

It is the day we got our freedom and dignity back after years of oppression under the white colonialists. Can you imagine there were white only areas where no blacks were not allowed in our own country?

The white colonialist took all the prime farming land and shared it among themselves whilst native Zimbabweans where pushed into over-crowded poor soil areas, so that they would forever work for the white man.

I could go on and on talking about how cruel these white colonialists where to the native Zimbabweans. Because we are now independent that’s why this day means a lot to us Zimbabweans.

What does this day mean to you as a Zimbabwean?

Why Was Julius Malema Invited To Zimbabwe?

Julius Malema, the ANC Youth League President reportedly arrived in Zimbabwe to a hero’s welcome from Zanu Pf supporters singing his banned song “shoot the boer” which calls for the killing of white South Africans.

This guy has been accused of inciting hatred and violence, something that the Zanu Pf leadership seems to support

seeing that they quickly invited him to Harare.

They even bused people from rural areas so there will be somebody to listen to his hate filled speech.

But, do we really need people like Julius Malema in Zimbabwe right now when we are trying to rebuild our own broken country?

Does this guy really understand the situation in Zimbabwe? Does he really know what people have gone through and are going through in Zimbabwe right now?

We do not need people like him in Zimbabwe right now. Say NO to hate and violence we do not need this in Zimbabwe.

Mbare Squatters – Where is the Independence for these people

What happened to housing for all by the year 2000? The government promised housing for everyone and I think large sums of money where budgeted for this, so why do we have people living in shacks today?

Thirty years of Independence and we have people without land, a place where they can build a house to live.

Mbare Man

This government has failed the people, do they still have anything to offer?

Something they have failed to do in the past 30 years.

A few years ago the government destroyed people’s house during ‘Operation Murambatsvina’.

Did they make any plans and provided accommodation for those affected? This is the kind of people who still want to be in power?

Is this a responsible government, a government which values the welfare of the citizens of Zimbabwe?

If at all they care so why do we have people living in shacks today after 30 years of independence?

Tougher screening process for Australian student visa

Zimbabwe is in the group of countries targeted by the Australian government as it cracks down on visa fraud and scrutinises their ability to finance life in Australia. Other targeted countries include India, Mauritius, Nepal, Brazil and Pakistan.

Students from these targeted countries will be subject to more stringent interviews and will also have limited access to visa applications online. Applicants who are suspected to be at risk of cheating the system will also be called in for face-to-face interviews to determine if they are legitimate students.

Theage reports that,

The one-off dumping of cash in a bank account or enrolment in lesser-known institutions are among triggers understood to invite extra scrutiny by immigration officials. By contrast, a PhD student enrolled at a sandstone university would be less likely to raise red flags.

Senator Evans said the measures would help to combat fraud. ”These measure are consistent with those used by other countries that receive large numbers of student visa applications, such as the United States,” he said.

Online visa applications will be curbed. Migration agents shown to have abused the ”eVisa” system with false documentation in the past may be blocked, as well as agents who have been inactive.
