Are we any closer to the end of the circus of the Zimbabwe elections?

Zimbabwe Elections 2008

Verification of the presidential election results set for Thursday in the latest of the Zimbabwe Election Drama of 2008.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) will submit the results of last month’s presidential election to the ruling Zanu PF party and Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC to begin the verification process.
This is the final step before ZEC announces the results to the public. But it is very unlikely that Morgan Tsvangirai and Robert Mugabe will agree to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s results.

The two parties will compare the results they tallied from the different polling stations and the final Zimbabwe Electoral Commission count. Once all parties are satisfied they will sign verification forms and the results can be released.
However given all the circus that has been taking place over the past month since the election on 29 March, I doubt that we are any closer to a solution to the election circus.

The opposition MDC has already announced that Morgan Tsvangirai, and also many other Zimbabweans seem to share the same. So, what will happen if the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission announces a win result for Robert Mugabe? Obviously MDC will not accept that.
The same applies to Zanu PF, I’m almost certain they will not accept a win result for Morgan Tsvangirai. But I’m sure they will be happy with an election re-run, they know they lost the election and ‘maybe’ if given a second chance they maybe better equipped to steal the vote.

Zanu PF should not be let to steal the vote again, gracefully they should leave office for the better of Zimbabwe. The United Nations Security Council has refused to send a special envoy to try and end the Zimbabwe election circus and the humanitarian crisis developing in Zimbabwe.
