ZBC TV says two Zanu PF supporters killed by MDC

>> 31 May 2008

The state controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting (ZBC) TV has said two Zanu PF supporters were shot dead by suspected Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) supporters in Mutoko. The opposition MDC has denied any involvement in the shooting.

There has been a lot of politically motivated violence in Zimbabwe ever since the March 29 elections. The opposition MDC claims 50 of their supporters have been killed by Zanu PF supporters. According to ZBC, "Suspected MDC supporters shot and killed two Zanu PF women's league members in Mutoko.......raising fears that they could have been targeted as the MDC intensifies it's campaign to intimidate ruling party supporters."

Whether there were any killings in Mutoko, it will be very difficult to believe given ZBC's biased and propaganda reporting. The state controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation has a history of going out of it's way to campaign for the ruling party.

So, it may not be a surprise if this is another attempt to gain political mileage for Robert Mugabe ahead of the June 27 vote.

55 Nigerians arrested in £21 million lottery con

Using an old trick, you would think no one would fall for it. But this group of Nigerians has managed to steal millions from unsuspecting British nationals. Spanish police arrested 55 Nigerians in swoops on more than 60 premises in Malaga, Spain.

Victims get letters saying they have won prizes in Spanish lottery. This was followed by demands for cash to cover administrative charges. Victims suffered loses ranging from £640 to £720 000.

Do not fall for this fraud. If it's too good to be true, then it's not true. Plus you never win the lottery if you do not buy the ticket.

Besides this lottery con, ran by these fraudsters in Spain. Sometimes these Nigerians send you emails where they promise to give you a big some of money if you facilitate the transfer of their big sums of money held in some trust account somewhere in Africa.

This is just a trick to get your bank details and steal your money. Beware of identity fraud, which is now common in the UK. It's always nice to know what's in your credit report, this will help you find out if someone is using your name and details.

You can view yours here: Free Experian Credit Report

One of the victims of these Nigerian fraudster was a disabled pensioner who was swindled out of £100 000 life savings in the lottery scam. He was so convinced he had won a £1.3 million jackpot and he took out bank loans to make some of the payments.

Always remember if it's too good to be true. Then chances are it's not true.

Simba Makoni says no to Run-off vote

>> 30 May 2008

Did anyone ever believed Simba Makoni. At the last minute he came out and announced his intention to contest the March 29 presidential election. His 8 percent vote is what has kept current government in office.

Now he says he is against the election run-off. Why did it take him all this time to decide his position on the election run-off? Just like in the previous election, everything happens at the last minute with him. Just to confuse the situation.

Which reminds me of the comments I received recently from one of the readers of township vibes.

"l have just one concern to raise regarding the foregone elections. Can someone tell me why all of a sudden Simba Makoni has gone quite? Never mind he lost the election. If he was sincere in his Presidential challenge, don't you think by now he should have at least indicated the way forward to the 8% who voted for him? I still seriously think, as l did soon after his entry in the Presidential race, that he was used by Zanu PF to 'split/steal' MDC votes. And it worked otherwise we wouldn't be facing this run-off. I will forever blame Makoni for failing to abide by his professional ethics to save Zimbabwe at a time he was called upon to do so - but instead chose to betray the well-being of millions of Zimbabweans".

He might be right to say the run-off vore has resulted in more violence, torture and killing of innocent Zimbabweans. But ever since the election results were announced, many people have always been against this election run-off. Most people believe Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF rigged the results because of their desire to hang on to power at all cost. Makoni despite having 8 percent of the total vote decided to keep quite.

Now that the two parties still involved, Morgan Tsvangirai and Robert Mugabe are already campaigning for the forth-coming run-off. Does Makoni expect to change anything? If he was genuine and really wanted to see Mugabe leave office, why then does he not support Morgan Tsvangirai?

He is entitled to his choice but maybe Simba Makoni is also partly to blame for the current crisis in Zimbabwe.

So Grace Mugabe think that Tsvangirai will never get to State House

>> 29 May 2008

As is to rub it in! As if Zanu PF and it's sympathisers have not tortured and killed enough innocent Zimbabweans. How could Grace say such irresponsible statements?

On her supposed 'visit' to victims of 'Zanu PF' violence, Grace Mugabe, the wife of Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe told her party supporters that Morgan Tsvangirai will never set foot into State House (as if it's the Mugabe's personal property).
Is it up to Grace and Robert Mugabe to decide who will be the next president of Zimbabwe?

Grace Mugabe told Zanu PF supporters that, "Even if people vote for Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Tsvangirai will never set foot inside State House. He will only get to hear about how it looks like inside from people who have been their. Even if Baba (Mugabe) loses, he will only leave to make way to someone from Zanu PF".

There is no doubt that Grace's statements will cause more violence in the country. (how else does she expect people to react to such irresponsible talk from someone who is supposed to care for the people?).

Grace Mugabe who is 40 years, Robert Mugabe's Junior was accompanying the president to Shamva.

It's a pity someone who is supposed to be a respected figure in society is now open to such ridicule all because of such irresponsible talk. But what else can we expect from her? Every Zimbabwean knows who is behind the country's problems, now it seems even Grace has realised what everyone else new already. That Mugabe is responsible and people want him out.

But what does the future have for Grace Mugabe after State House? Could it be the reason why she is not so keen to leave State House?

But in the townships we think she knows it's now time for change, so the sooner she accepts it and move on the better.

Zimbabweans still risk their lives crossing into South Africa

Despite the xenophobic violence that rocked South African townships in the past weeks, Zimbabweans are still risking their lives illegally crossing into South Africa.
Zimbabwean immigrants fleeing the economic and political problems in their own country cross the border from Zimbabwe to South Africa illegally through the crocodile infested Limpopo river.

Who can blame the people? Desperate times like these call for desperate actions. The political crisis in Zimbabwe has resulted in increased suffering for the majority of Zimbabweans.

Ever since the disputed elections on March 29 in which the opposition MDC defeated the ruling Zanu PF, Zimbabweans have seen an increase in violence against opposition supporters. Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) activists have been killed and some displaced from their areas as the country prepare for the election run-off set for June 27.

The economy is in meltdown. The country's highest denomination bank note ($500 million) can not even buy you one chicken which is being sold for ZW$2 billion.
These economic problems have been attributed to years of mismanagement by the current Zanu PF government. The Zimbabwean dollar exchange rate is now one pound (£1) to ZW$1.2 billion............how ridiculous!

As Zimbabwean immigrants continue to risk their lives by crossing the border into South Africa were 52 people were reported to have been killed in xenophobic attacks, what is the solution to the Zimbabwe crisis? Will the elections on June 27 solve the Zimbabwe problem?

South Africa names 3 Zimbabweans in Spingbok squad

>> 28 May 2008

Three Zimbabwean born players, Tendai Mtawarira, Brian Mujati and Tonderai Chavhanga were named in the Springbok squad announced by SARU president Orega Hoskins for this summer's internationals.

The three players have been in fine form for their respective clubs and have been hugely impressive in this season's Super 14 competition. Tendai Mtawarira is said to be very popular with the fans down south.

The South African squad is preparing to face Wales in a two-test series in June and also face Italy in a one-off clash before they embark on the Tri-Nations campaign.

Zimbabwe's lose is South Africa's gain

Good luck to the guys and I wish them the best in their forth coming games. They got the chance to pursue their Rugby careers in South Africa. They now have a chance to showcase their talents on the international stage. The chance which has been deprived to so many talented Zimbabweans.

It's so nice to be home!

>> 27 May 2008

Home is best....and most of the Zimbabweans who have been forced to flee their our country because of violence, torture, hunger and starvation will want to go home one day and experience the nice feeling of being home again.

On his return to Zimbabwe from South Africa, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) president Morgan Tsvangirai said, "It's so nice to be home". And indeed he is back in the country to prepare for the election run-off scheduled for June 27.
Tsvangirai is back in Zimbabwe to prepare for that day, when Zimbabweans will decide their destiny.

Meanwhile our dear president Robert Mugabe has threatened to kick out of the country US Ambassador James McGee. He accuses him of political interference. But in the townships we think the main problem is, the US Ambassador is exposing something that the government is not happy about (all the violence, torture and murder of innocent Zimbabweans).

Our dear president has also been referring to the US state department's diplomat for Africa, Jendayi Frazer as a prostitute. The president said Jendayi Frazer was behaving like a prostitute for suggesting that the MDC won the March 29 elections.

But if the MDC did not win, then who won? Since when did stating the facts equal to being a prostitute.

It has also been reported in some news sources that Robert Mugabe's eye sight is no longer that good. He is said to have complained that even though he would like to read the Herald, he can not do so because the print is too small for his eyes.
But in the townships we don't think he is not missing much by not reading the 'Horrible' newspaper.

Zimbabwe President Mugabe travelled to Far East for cancer tests

>> 26 May 2008

Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe is reported to have gone to Singapore for secret prostate cancer tests. According to a report in The Times, Mugabe flew to the Far East last week for the medical treatment which is no longer available in his run-down hospitals in Zimbabwe.

Sources in the government said Mugabe had travelled to Singapore to undergo tests for prostate cancer. According to the Times sources, the tests were carried out by one of one of Malaysia's to urologists.

Mugabe has been increasingly turning to the Far East for help since the breakdown of his relationship with the West.

As much as we don't wish poor health on anyone, it is very unfortunate that the president of the country has the privilege of going to other countries for medical treatment whilst the majority of the country just suffer in pain and die.

How many Zimbabweans have lost their lives because of poor medical attention in hospitals and clinics. Some hospitals have been forced to shut down or cut down on their operations.
There are no doctors and nurses in most hospitals, most of then have gone to other countries for greener pastures. For those nurses and doctors still in the country some of them can not even afford to go to work because of the economic problems in Zimbabwe today.

Zimbabwe dollar exchange rate gets to ZW$1 000 000 000.00

>> 24 May 2008

This is not a joke! It's not a surprise either!

The Zimbabwe dollar exchange rate has got to ZW$1 billion against the British pound. Well done to Mugabe, Gideon Gono the reserve bank governor and all the Zanu PF sympathisers. They have managed to reduce the country to 'Zimbabwe Ruins'.
How else could they explain this exchange rate - one(1) British pound to
ZW$1 000 000 000.00.

Is it time up for the Zanu PF government? Can they be trusted with running the country's economy anymore.

I put the blame on Gideon Gono, the reserve bank of Zimbabwe governor. He is responsible for the monetary policy of the country. He has been coming up with these policies which have not helped the country at all.
After his introduction of the willing seller, willing buyer exchange rate policy did things get better in the country? NO. They have actually got worse.

If we add the three zeros that Gono removed from the currency the exchange rate gets into trillions. Give us a break!
Gono should get out of the office because he has failed the country. Some may want to place the blame somewhere, but as long as he remains reserve bank governor, he is part of the system which has failed the country.

Morgan Tsvangirai visited victims of violence on his return to Zimbabwe

Showing that indeed he is the people's president.

Movement for Democratic Change president Morgan 'Mudavanhu' Tsvangirai has visited party supporters in hospital on his return to Zimbabwe. A number of MDC supporters have been victims of violence and torture perpetrated by Zanu PF supporters.
Some have been killed for supporting Morgan Tsvangirai and the MDC. But is it a crime to support a party of your choice?

Morgan Tsvangirai was also expected to attend the funeral of another killed MDC activist Tonderai Ndira.

Morgan Tsvangirai left South Africa today for Zimbabwe to go and prepare for the presidential run-off vote scheduled for June 27.
Tsvangirai defeated Robert Mugabe in the elections held on March 29 but did not get the majority 50 percent vote, according to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

"I'm excited to be home and gearing for the election," Tsvangirai said in Harare. And I think also every Zimbabwe is looking forward to the elections. Could this be the end of all our suffering? Come June 27, are we going to see the beginning of a new Zimbabwe? A new era.

More problems for Zimbabweans as the dollar falls against major currencies

>> 23 May 2008

Lately the Zimbabwe dollar exchange rate has been very unstable, and in fact it still continues to be unstable, falling everyday against major currencies (today £1 is equivalent to ZW$850 million).

It's problem after problem in Zimbabwe today. The Zimbabwe dollar continues to lose value against major currencies, whilst at the same time it doesn't seem as if the reserve bank have a clue on how to end the fall in value of the dollar.
The Zimbabwe dollar is currently trading at one (1) British pound to ZW$850 million and still falling. The rate changes everyday, so the best is to check for the latest exchange rate before any transactions.

So, what is the future of the Zimbabwean dollar?

I think this is now one of those useless currencies in the world, thanks to Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF government. They have managed to destroyed a once very strong Zimbabwean dollar, now it's valueless.

Even the efforts of Reserve Bank governor Gideon Gono to control the exchange rate have failed to stabilise the Zimbabwean dollar. He has even tried removing zeros from the currency in an effort to give it more 'value'.
The truth is all his efforts have failed......

So what can stabilise the value of this Zimbabwean dollar?

Blame the government for the current Zimbabwe economic crisis

>> 22 May 2008

Everyone knows that the government of Zimbabwe is to blame for the current economic and political problems in the country. So, I find it difficult to understand why The Herald newspaper is trying to use the recent price increases as a campaign tool for the regime that has destroyed every Zimbabwean's livelihood.

In a front page article in Wednesday's Herald, the paper wants it's readers to believe that the recent price increases are meant to sabotage the ruling Zanu PF campaign for the June 27 presidential run-off.
I find this as a mischievous and desperate attempt by the government's propaganda mouth-piece to try and get sympathy for the government from the long suffering Zimbabweans. But the people are not stupid, they know who is to blame for this unprecedented suffering.

The Zimbabwe economy is in meltdown, the country is in crisis because of the political problems caused by a regime determined to stay in power at all cost. On March 29 the people of Zimbabwe voted and elected a candidate whom they wanted to lead them out of this Zanu PF created crisis. The defeated Zanu PF party decided not to honour the people's choice and rigged the vote so they can have a second bite of the cherry.
Today the Zimbabwe crisis is even worse, and has even resulted in violence in neighbouring South Africa where Zimbabweans fleeing problems in their own country have been targeted in xenophobic attacks.

Why the government is to blame for the current economic and political problems?

1. The major problem is the corruption which is normal in our government's day to day business. There have been a lot of cases involving government ministers of which nothing has been done to them. In fact the only 'punishment' mostly is a transfer to another ministry.

2. After the government lost in the 2000 referendum, those misguided elements masquerading as war veterans led by one Chenjerai Hunzvi embarked on the often violent farm invasions. They settled themselves in white owned farms and displaced the farm workers. The government allowed these people to destroy the country's agricultural sector, the backbone of the economy.
The government allowed the unproductive people to settle themselves in prime agricultural land were they do nothing but cut trees to sale for firewood.
All this because the government faced defeat from MOrgan Tsvangirai and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

3. Because of personal sanctions imposed on Robert Mugabe and his inner circle of sympathisers for violation of human rights, the government in retaliation decided to cut ties with the IMF and other international organisations.
In their reasoning which was to ruin the Zimbabwe economy, they decided to turn to their Asian friends, namely China and Malaysia. The economic support from the far east has not been enough to sustain the Zimbabwe economic recovery thus the current problems we are facing today.

4. When the government gave in to the demands of the war veterans led by Chenjerai Hunzvi and awarded them large sums of money. They started a catastrophic crumbling of the Zimbabwe dollar and the economy in general. Ever since that day the Zimbabwe dollar has never recovered. In fact it's now nearly valueless, I'm surprised it's still accepted as legal tender.
In an effort to control the dollar's fall against other trading currencies, the government introduced a fixed exchange rate policy. Giving the dollar an artificial value against major currencies.

The Zimbabwe dollar is so useless that most people now charge for their goods and services in foreign currency. Curently the exchange rate is at ZW$850 million to one (1) British pound, and still falling daily.

When the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe decided to change the exchange rate policy to willing seller, willing buyer. That was the beginning of these price increases that the Herald newspaper now want to claim as sabotaging the Zanu PF party by companies. Because prices are now quoted in foreign currency, the more the Zimbabwe dollar is losing value against major currencies, the prices will keep going up.

5. Inflation in Zimbabwe is now over 1 million percent, 80 percent of the population is unemployed and live in poverty.
There is a general shortage of most basic commodities. There is a general shortage of food and many are faced with hunger and starvation.
In most parts of the country they now live without electricity and raw sewage flows in the streets.

There are so many facts which prove that the Zimbabwe government has failed the people and is responsible for the economic and political problems currently facing the country.

Zimbabwean response to violence in South Africa

In this post one of My Zimbabwe Today readers shares his views on the violence in South Africa against immigrants, mostly from Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique. What goes around comes around! The people of South Africa should know that.

It is so sad to read about the violence going on in South Africa and the plight of immigrants. The actions of the South African people are barbaric and uncalled for. Twenty three people are said to have been killed by these South African thugs yet the Thabo Mbeki led government has so far failed to act decisively on the growing attacks on immigrants.

BUT! Behold bretheren. What goes around comes around! Those South Africans do not even know that sooner or later, they are going to be border jumping into neighbouring countries(particularly Zimbabwe) in search of the very same that those immigrants they are burning alive are searching for in their South Africa. (Mark my words!!! and I am no prophet of doom). The failure of ANC and its myopic Thabo Mbeki to quickly and effectively redress this (violence) shall be the very same failure to offer long term opportunities to its disgruntled black population.

These events are but just a tip of things to come. South Africans are still in a phase where they have total hope and belief in their leadership, just like us around those years after gaining independence. They would rather blame increasing unemployment and poverty on IMMIGRANTS rather than their own government's failures. Do you at any point remember any Zimbabwean winging when we had an equally, if not more, influx of South Africans, Mozambicans, Zambians, Malawians and even Nigerians. We shared with them, housed, fed and lived with them like brothers and sisters. What are we getting in return?

Behold bretheren, don't weep and dispare. Instead have mercy and pity for the South Africans for their future is by far worse off than ours. Lets continue to pray that God's blessings are just around the corner for Zimbabwe. The moment the tyrant Mugabe goes on 27 June, 2008 (or a month, 2 months, etc depending on how long Zimbabwe Electoral Commission will want to spend counting the results), then we will all witness a turn around of the Zimbabwe situation. Over-night those Immigrants will disappear leaving the South Africans to revisit their hypothesis that Immigrants (Zimbabweans) are causing them hardships arising from unemployment and a rise in cost of living, among others.

Lets wait and see.

New wave of massive price increases as Zimbabwe inflation rate riches 1 million

>> 21 May 2008

Zimbabwe' annual inflation rate rose this month to 1 063 572 percent based on a basket of food stuffs.
How can we describe the economic situation in Zimbabwe? The economy is in crisis, and nothing seems to be going right in Zimbabwe today. And still Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF government still insists that they are the best in managing Zimbabwe's economy. What a joke!
A 1kg chicken costs ZW$1 billion, bread ZW$200 million and chances are by the time you are reading this the prices have changed again. That is how bad things are in Zimbabwe. Crazy stuff, isn't it?

So, can this get any worse than this? I'm afraid YES. As long as the current government remains in power we are doomed Zimbabwe. June 27 is too far. Add to that the days it will take the Electoral Commission to count the votes, add the days for verification and add the days for a possible recount. Then I may not be wrong to say we are sad for more doom and gloom ahead.

Can anyone tell me how Zimbabwe workers can manage to go to work under these difficulty times? Wages can not increase at the same rate as the increase in prices, which means more suffering for the worker.
Transport costs increase everyday, rent for two bedroom apartment is now about ZW$22 billion, add on that the food costs and other requirements. There is no suffering greater than this.

Soon there is going to be a total collapse in all public services in Zimbabwe. And to think that at such a difficult time for the country, the government can even consider spending whatever little money they have on guns and bombs. It makes me angry. Do people eat guns and bombs?

Zimbabwe is the fastest shrinking economy outside a conventional war zone, with much of the country's savings having been used up in spending without corresponding productive income.

"It is as though a starving man has eaten his left foot and starts eating his right foot to survive in the short term," said independent Harare economist John Robertson.

How to find cheap flights to Zimbabwe

As travelling is becoming more expensive, there are ways which can save you money next time you are looking for a cheap flight ticket to Harare or Bulawayo or wherever you want to go.
It is unfortunate that our national airline, Air Zimbabwe is no longer that reliable and their on board services are no longer that good. But if you make use of the following ideas you will be able to save yourself money and also have an enjoyable journey to Zimbabwe.

1. Always check major travel websites like Expedia or Tomas Cook. They will show you the prices for the major airlines. The important factor is shopping around as many of these websites usually have different promotions at different times of the year.

Always watch out for the booking fees, most websites can charge you more on these booking fees. To get the most out of your money always check directly with the airline you intend to travel with and compare the quote that you get from the travel website. It maybe cheaper to buy direct from the airline.

2. Try also websites which focus only on selling airline tickets (niche websites). They usually show routes and tickets from discount airlines which you may not find on major travel sites.
It doesn't seen like we have these budget flights flying to Zimbabwe, but you may just be able to get yourself a good deal.

3. Travel Agents, for many years we have relied on travel agents when making our travel arrangements. Many of us we are used to travel agents and more often we get a better deal from them.
Travel Agents sometimes are able to buy airline tickets in bulk which enable them to sale at a discount.

The most important thing to get cheap air tickets is to shop around and compare. Always make it a habit to compare offers you get from different sources. Make use of major travel websites and also travel agents and don't forget to compare with what the airline itself is offering.

If you can, always buy your tickets months in advance. This way you will be able to get a cheaper ticket than last minute buys.

Zimbabwe immigrant George Gwaze acquited of murder and sex charges

George Evans Gwaze a Zimbabwean living in New Zealand was found not guilty of murder and sexual assault against his niece, 10 year old Charlene Makaza.
A jury of seven man and five women took just under five hours to reach it's verdict. The girl who was HIV positive was found dead at Gwaze's home last year. She had lived with Gwaze and his family since the death of her mother when she was seven months old.

The jury returned not guilty verdicts on the murder charge and two counts of sexual violation.

Charlene was found by her aunt in bed having breathing difficulties and was rushed for medical treatment, but died later in the hospital. Medical evidence was given that damage to Charlene's genital and rectal areas indicated she had been sexually assaulted. Sperm from George Gwaze was found in her underpants.

However the defence argued that the sperm may have been the result of an "innocent transfer" in the family's washing.

So, the 'Ship of Shame' cargo managed to get to Zimbabwe

Despite all the international condemnation, it seems the Zimbabwe government managed to get delivery of it's weapons from China. It's just so sad that no one can do anything to stop this evil regime from brutalising it's own citizens.
At a time when the country is faced by severe food shortages, lack of medical supplies and a total collapse of the public services, the government decides to acquire guns and bombs.
There have been reports that Zimbabwe deputy information minister, Bright Matonga confirmed that they have indeed received the weapons from China. 3 million rounds of assault rifles, 3 000 mortar rounds and 1 500 rocket propelled grenades. The weapons are said to have been flown to Zimbabwe on a charter plane from Congo.

Is this a government which cares for it's people? They should be ashamed of themselves.

At a time when those barbaric South Africans have been killing Zimbabwean refugees who have fled more violence and persecution by the Zimbabwe government, it is a time we need real leaders.
The South African government led by one Thabo Mbeki is not doing anything to stop the evil against immigrants in South Africa. Now the people are taking the law into their own hands, stopping and asking people for ID cards. This just shows the type of leaders we have in the SADC region.

A South African deputy foreign affairs minister, Pahad Aziz has been in the news saying that the reports from Zimbabwe are over exaggerated. Has he been to Zimbabwe to see for himself what is happening? This is the type of talk from somebody living comfortably in South Africa, whilst Zimbabwean citizens are being persecuted at home and in countries of refuge. Why is it that the South African leaders can not just keep quite if they have nothing to say.
So he thinks information about Zimbabwe has been fabricated?

It is high time Morgn Tsvangirai returns to Zimbabwe and lead the people to their second independence. The people have suffered enough, no one else seems interested in helping the citizens of Zimbabwe, probably if we still had all those minerals, maybe if we had oil, maybe if we had diamond mines.
Hope June 27, the people of Zimbabwe will finally have a chance to decide their destiny and deliver themselves from the violence and torture.

Who is to blame for Xenophobic violence against immigrants in South Africa?

>> 19 May 2008

What sort of person can wilfully, in cold blood, douse a man with petrol and set him alight? I looked with horror at the picture of an 'immigrant' in flames. I can imagine the pain, suffering and all that he experienced. God bless his soul!
But what can cause people to behave in such a barbaric manner? Is that the NEW South Africa?
It is so sad that most of the immigrants that have been caught up in this township violence are Zimbabweans. The same Zimbabweans fleeing across the border into South Africa, from hunger, violence and torture caused by the Zimbabwe government. The same Zimbabwe government that has the support of South African president Thabo Mbeki and SADC.

Why suddenly South Africans are behaving in such an inhuman manner? South Africa has always been know to have a high rate of crime committed by it's own citizens. Their government has failed to curb all this crime.
However it's also true that the increase in the number of immigrants coming into South Africa may also have contributed to the increase in crime. But it is wrong to blame all the South Africans problems on immigrants.

But who is to blame for these attacks against immigrants? Firstly South African president Thabo Mbeki and his quite diplomacy on the Zimbabwe crisis. I'm sure the South African president has been warned and he was aware of the effect of the continued crisis in neighbouring Zimbabwe on the whole Southern African region.

Zimbabweans have been fleeing across the border into South Africa in their thousands. Last year we saw South African farmers taking the law into their own hands and 'arresting' Zimbabweans coming into South Africa. What did Mbeki and his government do about it? Nothing, this was more like encouraging people to take the law into their own hands.
Mbeki, SADC and African Union lack leadership and are spineless when it comes to dealing with the Zimbabwean issue. They have natured a problem which has now caused the killings of innocent people.

What about the South Africans themselves? They are saying Zimbabweans should go back and vote Mugabe out of power. How quickly people forget. How long did it take them to end the apartheid rule? Without support from neighbouring countries, I think it was going to take them even longer.
What would have happened is their leaders were thrown out of neighbouring countries and send back into the hands of the enemy? They should accept that they have failed the immigrants they are now killing.

It's the South Africans who employ these immigrants, who are prepared to work to feed their starving families where ever they come from. It is the same South Africans have have sold their houses to these immigrants because they want money. Why then blame these immigrants looking for a better life.

The people of South Africa should be ashamed of themselves for acting in such inhuman and barbaric nature. The blood of the dead is on their hands. They get joy from the crying souls of immigrants killed so violently.

Plot to assassinate Zimbabwe's opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai

>> 17 May 2008

MOrgan Tsvangirai the leader of Zimbabwe's opposition party, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has postponed his return to Zimbabwe after his party said it had discovered an assassination plot against him.
Morgan Tsvangirai has been out of Zimbabwe for more than a month since the disputed March 29 elections. The MDC leader was due to return to Zimbabwe from Europe on Saturday to campaign for the June 27 election run-off against Robert Mugabe.

"We have received information from credible sources concerning a planned assassination attempt against (party) president Tsvangirai. We are not in a position to say whether this threat concerns the actions of the state or a non-state actor," spokesman George Sibotshiwe said.

"In light of this information and on the strong recommendations of Mr Tsvangirai's security advisers, it has been decided that the party president will not return to Zimbabwe today," he said from neighbouring South Africa, where he said Tsvangirai also was.

Meanwhile Zimbabwe Deputy Information Minister Bright Matonga said Tsvangirai should report any security concerns to the authorities.
"I do not know that he left the country because of security reasons. There is a run-off on the 27th of June and he needs to come home and campaign. Hanging out outside the country won't help his cause," Matonga told Reuters.

Morgan Tsvangirai delays return to Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai who has lived out of the country for over a month will not be returning home Saturday as expected. Tsvangirai was expected to return to Zimbabwe to prepare for the second round of elections against Robert Mugabe.

Tsvangirai was due to return to Zimbabwe from Europe where he addressed a summit in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Tsvangirai defeated Robert Mugabe in the March 29 elections, but did not get enough votes to get outright victory. However most Zimbabweans believe the election was flawed and Mugabe and his Zanu PF party rigged the elections because of their desire to stay in power.

The MDC could not say when Tsvangirai will be going home. " We can't say why he will not be coming today, except to say it's due to circumstances beyond our control." said Movement for Democratic Change party spokesman Nelson Chamisa.
Chamisa said an MDC rally scheduled in Zimbabwe's second city of Bulawayo on Sunday would go ahead, but would not say whether Tsvangirai would be back in the country in time to address it.

Morgan Tsvangirai to return to Zimbabwe, Mugabe admits election disaster

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader Morgan Tsvangirai will return to Zimbabwe on Saturday to start his run-off campaign after a court overturned a ban on the opposition's first rally since it claimed victory in the March 29 elections, party officials said.
Meanwhile Robert Mugabe has told ruling Zanu PF part conference on Friday that the result of the March 29 election was "disastrous".

Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe told his party's central committee that, "Although the presidential result did not yield an outright winner, it was indeed disastrous".
"Nevertheless we are set for a second round, for the run-off which must now decide the winner.

Mugabe also went on to say that he will not lose power to an opposition he said was backed by "a hostile axis of powerful foreign governments" and Western "imperialists".

...... I wonder how many Zimbabweans agree with Mugabe on this issue.

Meanwhile the delayed vote run-off will be held on June 27, the Electoral Commission announced. Could this be the day the country finally get rid of this unwanted government for good?

But what really motivates Mugabe? What really gives him this desire to hang on to power? What makes him believe that he is the only one who can lead and manage the country's economy better?
After all his record shows he has failed. 80 percent of the population live below the poverty datum line, 80 percent of the population are unemployed, 165 000percent inflation. We have a rubbish and valueless Zimbabwean Dollar, with the highest denomination bank note of ZW$500 million (equivalent to 1 pound), that's ridiculous.

People have no food and when they don't vote for him, they have to be beaten so they vote for him in the run-off.

So, what do you think about the coming vote run-off. Any message to fellow Zimbabweans.

>> 16 May 2008

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has announced that the delayed Zimbabwe presidential election run-off will be held on June 27. The opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) hope oust veteran leader Robert Mugabe after almost 30 years in power.
"A poll shall be taken on the Friday the 27th of June, 2008, for the purpose of electing the person for the office of the president," a notice in the government gazette said.

The second round of elections follows a disputed March 29 election in which Morgan Tsvangirai of the Movement for Democratic change (MDC) defeated Robert Mugabe, but failed to get the majority 50 percent of the total vote.

MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai in Belfast

Zimbabwe's Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) President Morgan Tsvangirai is due to give a speech to a political conference in Belfast, Northern Ireland addressing Liberal parties from across the world.
Tsvangirai who defeated Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe's presidential election in March is to visit Belfast on Friday.

Conference organiser Lord John Alderdice said "we are honoured that Mr Tsvangirai and Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade have chosen to attend the conference in Belfast.
"Belfast is a city often seen as an example that conflict can be overcome when people choose peace and democracy over violence and tyranny". He also went on to say, "It is an honour for the world wide liberal family to be in the presence of these distinguished individuals who are dedicated to perusing basic human rights in Africa.

Morgan Tsvangirai's MDC has reacted angrily to the election re-run being delayed until end of July. An official government notice released Wednesday extended the deadline for holding the run-off vote by (90 days instead of the legal 21 days after the results were announced.
Tendai Biti, secretary general of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) called the decision irresponsible. "This country can not afford 90 days" of more violence and instability and deteriorating economic conditions.

Zimbabwe Introduces ZW$500 million Bank Note - Crazy Money!

>> 15 May 2008

Welcome to Zimbabwe! Welcome to the Land of new bank notes!

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has introduced new ZW$500 000 000 bank note in a bid to tackle cash shortages caused by runaway inflation estimated to be about 165 000 percent according to figures released in February. Since then no inflation figures have been released.
Zimbabwe is now surely a country of new bank notes, as the new ZW500 million comes only 10 after the introduction of ZW$100 million and ZW$250 million.

The Reserve Bank also introduced something they are calling 'Agro Cheques', in ZW$5 billion, ZW$25 billion and ZW$50 billion denominations, which will expire in December. These are meant to facilitate the "Implementation of the grain mobilisation programme", in the face of the global food crisis.

"Introducing the new the new ZW$500 million bearer cheque for your convenience", read a Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe advert in the government's mouth piece The Herald.

This is the fourth time Zimbabwe has introduced new bank notes this year.
In January higher denomination ZW$10 000 000 bank note
April 2......higher denomination ZW$50 million
May 2.........ZW$100 million and ZW$250 million
Now...........ZW$500 million

The country has gone to the dogs! Is anyone in control of the monetary situation in Zimbabwe?

Zimbabwe's chronic economic crisis has condemned many it's people to unprecedented levels of poverty. 80 percent of the population are said to live below the poverty datum line.

Why has the country resorted to printing these valueless papers?

Surely they must be printing these bank notes on bond paper. How can they afford the real paper to print money every week?

Hackers target Zimbabwe's Financial Gazette

Hackers have targeted Zimbabwe's business weekly, the Financial Gazette. The Newspapers had most of it's links replaced with slogans calling for Mugabe to GO. The popular opposition slogans, Mugabe must Go!Free Zim!

The Financial Gazette is widely believed to be owned by the Reserve Bank governor Mr Gono, who many see as a key Ally of president Mugabe.

Only a few days back, the website of Zimbabwe's Herald newspaper had it's links replaced with the word 'Gukurahundi' in reference to the period after independence when a lot of people were killed in the Matebeleland region.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the hacking of the two newspaper's websites. But the newspapers seem to be paying for their continued support of the current regime which most Zimbabweans blame for their current troubles. The regime which is not doing anything to stop the torture and killing of innocent people because it wants to hang on to power at all cost.

In chart rooms, forums and in the blog sphere Zimbabweans have been plotting to cripple the government's propaganda machine and all it's forces of evil and sympathisers. The Herald has said it was sabotaged by someone outside the country.

Does it mean Zimbabweans forced to flee their own country because of problems created by a regime determined to hang on to power at all cost? If so, why should we care about these two newspapers?

Zimbawe Violence : Who will save the innocent people of Zimbabwe from this torture

>> 14 May 2008

Who will save the innocent people of Zimbabwe from this brutality? Ever since the elections of March 29 in which Robert Mugabe's Zanu PF lost to the opposition MDC, the people of Zimbabwe have seen an increase in violence, torture and killings of perceived opposition supporters.
Where is SADC? Where is AU? Where is the United Nations? Where is the international community? As for our neighbour South Africa, God knows how many Zimbabweans wish their president Thabo Mbeki should just keep quite if he has got nothing to offer to the people of Zimbabwe.
Is it that all these organisations and the international community are powerless in saving the people of Zimbabwe from all this brutality? Perhaps only Zimbabweans can help themselves out of this situation, but how?

More than six weeks ago Zimbabweans went to the polls to elect who they want to be the leader of their country. Now six weeks after the elections in Zimbabwe and ahead of the expected run-off (of which the date has not been announced), the Zimbabwe economic crisis is deepening everyday and pushing ordinary Zimbabweans into despair.

Many Zimbabweans had hoped that the March 29 elections could bring an end to the country's' economic problems and the continued suffering caused the current government. Instead prices have skyrocketed to unprecedented levels living Zimbabweans hopeless and let down by everyone who could help end this crisis in the country.

There are reports and evidence of politically motivated violence and torture in all parts of the country. Video evidence and pictures are available for everyone to see, yet nobody seems to be able to help end this brutal regimes rule of terror.

"Levels of post election violence in Zimbabwe are escalating in Urban and Rural areas and could reach crisis proportions" a UN officials said.
There have been reports from Zimbabwe of a stand-off between the US Ambassador and the Zimbabwe police in the rural community of Mvurwi. All because the American Ambassador visited the area to witness first hand, the violence beatings and torture against Movement for Democratic Change supporters being perpetrated by Zanu PF supporters, government militias (green bombers) and those misguided elements who masquerade as war veterans.

Is anyone ever going to be able to help the people of Zimbabwe from the brutality of the current government, all because they voted for Morgan Tsvangirai and MDC? Where is the International community, where is SADC, AU and UN when the people of Zimbabwe are in the time of need?

Zimbabwe suspends import duty on basic commodities

The Zimbabwe government has temporarily suspended import duty on basic commodities in a bid to ease the chronic shortages facing the country. The Zimbabwean economy has been in crisis for some years now, characterised by runaway inflation estimated to be around 165 000 percent, high unemployment, chronic shortages of foreign currency, fuel and other basic commodities.

" As a stop-gap measure, the government has therefore suspended duty on basic commodities for a period of 90 days with effect from Monday 12 May," minister Sikhanyiso Ndlovu told journalist.

Minister Ndlovu went on to say that this was no means a substitution of locally-produced goods as it was only a temporary measure. Funny how these people know that they have failed the people of Zimbabwe but they just don't want to admit that they have messed-up the economy.

" Our people (of Zimbabwe) have been surviving by importing some basic goods to augment local production which has been hampered by sanctions on our country which lead to shortages of foreign currency." said minister Ndlovu
He also said the government will continue allocating foreign currency to help local manufacturers to increase production.

Only goods imported for consumption will qualify for import duty exemption and these include rice, margarine, cooking oil, floor and toothpaste.

The problem with our government is that they do not accept that they have failed, they do not want to acknowledge when they have made mistakes. They would rather find someone to blame for their failures. Because of that they fail to find the right solution to the country's problems. The problem lies within the government it's self, that is why Zimbabwe is in a crisis it is right now. Not because of the sanctions they keep talking about.

Zimbabwe used to be able to provide enough food for it's citizens, and export some to other countries before the government destroyed all that through their mismanagement of resources and corruption by government officials.

- they sanctioned the chaotic and violent land invasions which destroyed the country's agricultural sector.
- through the indegenisation program, they gave production companies to greedy individuals who managed to destroy the companies and in the process destroy the lives of many Zimbabweans.
- How many ministers and some high profile Zanu PF officials have been involved in corruption cases and nothing happened to them. In fact some ministers were transferred to other ministries after looting all finances from another ministry.

Hackers bring down Zimbabwe's Herald Newspaper Website

>> 13 May 2008

Some call it 'The Horrible' .....!

So, could it be the reason why somebody has crippled the government's propaganda machine?
Anywhere, I wonder how many Zimbabweans really care. Maybe the advertisers who have been oiling this government's mouth-piece and making money out of Zimbabwe living in the diaspora, forced to flee problems in their own country.

The Herald newspaper's website has been down since it was hacked over the weekend. Currently the website will re-direct you to the Sunday Mail website another arm of the government's propaganda machine. The state run Herald's website had all it's links replaced with the words 'Gukurahundi' in reference to the government's clampdown on the people of Matebeleland in the 1980s when a lot of civilians were killed by the Korean trained soldiers.

The state owned Herald has always been on a campaign to mislead the people of Zimbabwe ever since the government banned other independent daily newspapers. It is well know for wasting tax payer's money printing pro government propaganda.

Some Zimbabweans oppressed for a long time, and forced to flee hunger and starvation in their own homeland. Hunger caused by the government sanctioned land invasions by those thugs who masquerade as war veterans.
Tired of the current Zanu PF regime rigging elections, using violence and torture to remain in power. Banging on and on about our sovereignty, what sovereignty is there when you are not free to live in your own country?

Tired of the usual propaganda rubbish we get from Zanu PF and it's misguided supporters have been trying to cripple the Zanu PF propaganda machine which could probably explain why 'The Horrible' website is down. Phone numbers of Zanu PF and government officials and their sympathisers have been posted in forums and chart rooms, and blogs have been created in an effort to cripple the regime's propaganda machine.

I wonder how many wish, Western news agencies like SKY News and Al Jazeera could stop giving these so called 'government minister' air time to further their Zanu PF propaganda. While denying the peace loving people of Zimbabwe their right to choose a president of their own choice.

I'm always interested in your opinions, feel free to leave your comment on the hacking of the Herald website and any other matters.

Zimbabwe Champions Dynamos FC 'De Mbare' send Tunisia Champions packing

>> 12 May 2008

It had to be Dynamos once again flying the Zimbabwe flag high in Africa. Dynamos have proved once again to be the best football club in Zimbabwe by having more success where no other Zimbabwean club has. The Zimbabwe champions beat the current African Champions, Etoile Sportive du Sahel of Tunisia 1-0 to qualify for the mini league phase of the African Champions league.

Dynamos delivered the knock out blow of the weekend when they send the current African champions out of the competition before the group stage. Dynamos got the all important goal through winger Benjamin Marere to roll back those good old days and wild celebrations in Harare. Who would forget the scenes of 1998 when Dynamos went all the way to the finals of the African elite Club competition.

Dynamos participation in the game had been in doubt in the run up to the match because of Zimbabwe's new foreign currency restrictions. However Dynamos managed to overcome this at the last minute and only arrived in the coastal resort of Sousse in the early morning of the game.

Well done the boys in blue! Dynamos FC 'De Mbare' flying the Zimbabwe flag high in Africa.

The greatest challenge facing Morgan Tsvangirai and MDC

>> 09 May 2008

I'm always interested in hearing what readers of township vibes think regarding the situation in Zimbabwe and also their comments on the various posts here. Today I am going to share with you a response from one reader of township vibes, to my previous article (Will violence change people's vote?).
He gives a very intelligent analysis and commentary on the greatest challenges facing Morgan Tsvangirai and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). The greatest challenge facing MDC at this crucial point is how to reach out to the weak, impoverished, brutalised, intimidated, buttered, etc, souls in the rural and Peri-urban centers who NOW need reassurance that recasting their vote will continue to be the only saviour out of this Mugabe brutality and mess.

Unless this is bravely and urgently addressed, either a lot of voters are going to decide not to go and vote for fear of victimisation should the foreseeable obvious hold (i.e rigging in favour of Mugabe) or most will vote for the evil dictator (Mugabe) for fear of facing a repeat of what they are facing now as l write. The torture and brutality they face has (according to what is obtaining now ) been something no-one in this world can help stop or at least minimise. (Think of it, where is SADC, AU, UN, etc if they see pictures you produced and some shown on media world wide).

The confidence and security of some of the tortured and brutalised MDC supporters has been eroded much to the jubilation of Mugabe and his puppets. If only they (ex-combatants, army/police/militia/green bombers/etc) were wise enough to recall that the reason they took to the gun against Smith was this scenario. I am and will never suggest violence to redress violence and will much give support to an MDC that is full of the milk of human kindness which does believe in ending conflicts through dialogue and peace.

My request to all displaced Zimbabweans in the diaspora or anywhere else is that PLEASE PLEASE lets give which-ever relative we can talk to the confidence and advise to use their vote fruitfully without fear of intimidation and victimisation. Our part is to help on voter education and reassurance that its only through the ballot box that bread, butter, fuel, meat, sugar, beer, leisure, agricultural inputs/implements, profitable producer prices and so on, can return to every Zimbabwean's table at affordable prices and NEVER through the black market.

'Zimbabwe haingawire pasi takatarisa, pamusana pevanhu vashomanana vanofunga kuti inyika yavo (The country can never be sacrificed to a few greedy individuals who think they own it). They played their part. We need to be a dynamic state and move on lest we all fall disgracefully forever.

Lastly, Sovereignty which the aging dictator Mugabe always refers to, does not mean and will never infer citizens going without the basic food commodities, being beaten and brutalised by their own police and army, being denied the opportunity to exercise their choice of governance and least, facing the humiliation of spending endless 'nights' in bank, food and fuel queues. Sovereignty will never mean blatantly blaming this on other COUNTRIES (Britain, USA) who are even 'helping' housing and protecting those civilians fleeing the very Mugabe regime. Sovereignty is about enjoying the benefits of our hard won independence with freedom of choice, association, food self-sufficiency, adequate employment, maximum resource allocation and utilisation, a conducive and enabling political environment and governance, not to mention the desire for YOU, HIM and HER to be what they aspire and aspired yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Credit goes to one top reader of Township vibes for such a thought provoking commentary. Like I always say, I'm always interested in what you have to say. Leave your comments.

Air Zimbabwe flight to London catches fire in Malawi

An Air Zimbabwe plane bound for London's Gatwick airport with 91 passengers on board caught fire at Kamuzu International Airport in Malawi. Aviation authorities said Fire fighters doused the Air Zimbabwe plane after it's eight rear tires burst in to flames during an abortive take-off.

Mr Alfred Mtilatila, chief aviation officer at Kamuzu International Airport in Malawi said the incident involved an Air Zimbabwe Boeing 767 which was bound for London's Gatwick Airport. The plane aborted take-off after it stuck two birds which were sucked into it's turbines.

Mr Mtilatila added that nobody was hurt in the accident and all passengers were evacuated safely.
The plane had left Harare with 85 passengers on it's way to London.

Is violence and torture going make Zimbabwe people change their vote

>> 08 May 2008

If the ruling party and indeed the president have the sort of support from the people of Zimbabwe like they want us to believe, then why do they have to resort to violence and torture? If the people in the remote areas of Zimbabwe, where there is no exposure to any other media besides government controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation are turning against the government and voting for MDC, are they also British puppets? The people of Zimbabwe voted with their mouth. They couldn't vote for five more years of hunger and starvation. But is violence and torture going to make them change their vote?

As I'm writing this post, my thoughts go to all those people who have been victims of violence and torture in Zimbabwe. Like the two guys in the picture, why did they have to be subjected to such cruelty? Is it a crime to vote and to vote for a candidate of your own choice?
Nobody has got the right to rule other people forever that's why elections have to be held after every five years.

Will violence make people change their vote? I hope NO, and I don't think so. In fact given a free and fair election re-run, the ruling party and it's sympathisers will be well embarrassed. They will regret the day they decided to rig the vote to give themselves another bite of the cherry.

Like I said before, people voted with their mouth. A hungry man is an angry man, the people showed their anger by voting against Mugabe and his party. No matter how much he tried to bribe them (with tractors, diesel, food and cars) they still voted against him whilst they enjoyed his not so generous bribes.
Now are the people of Zimbabwe paying for taking Zanu PF's bribes and again voting against them?

I'm always interested in what you have to say, leave your comment.

Air Zimbabwe to introduce Internet bookings

>> 07 May 2008

As part of improving it's service delivery, Air Zimbabwe is going to introduce Internet booking service by mid-year. The national airline has been introducing different measures meant to improve it's service delivery. Air Zimbabwe has been performing very poorly due to mismanagement and general economic and political problems affecting the country.

Air Zimbabwe is also confident of meeting the 31 May deadline to sell all tickets electronically according to International Air Transport Association's Simplifying the Business project.
The project aims at improving airline's technology, automation and streamlining processes to reduce complexity and cost, whilst making transportation more convenient. E-ticketing was introduced to bring convenience, through e-ticketing travellers buy tickets from the Internet and it replaces the manual system which requires travellers to be physically present when buying their tickets.

Improving services was definitely overdue at Air Zimbabwe, the national airline has become so unreliable. It was no longer guaranteed that you will travel on your booked date. Their record in time keeping is probably the waste in the industry and the services they offer on their planes is also very poor, the seats are not that good for a long haul flight. Hopefully things are getting better at Air Zimbabwe and hopefully it's not just too much talk about nothing by the Air Zimbabwe Chief Executive.

I'm always interested in knowing what you think. Feel free to post your comment.

Zimbabwe introduces new bank notes again - $100 million and $250 million

>> 06 May 2008

Anyone knows how many bank notes we now have in Zimbabwe? I have lost count the monetary situation has gone bananas in our beautiful land of milk and honey.
The Reserve Bank governor Mr Gideon Gono has just announced the introduction of new banks notes. A new ZW$100 000 000 bank note and also a new ZW$250 000 000 bank note. This is meant to minimise the inconvenience to the banking public.

Only last month the reserve bank introduced $25 million and $50 million bank notes. Can there be an failure greater than this? This is probably the mother of all failures and only in Zimbabwe can such failure be rewarded. People spend all their time in queues, hunger and starvation is the order of the day. Only to get $5 billion the maximum allowed in a day, and what do they buy with such a pathetic amount of money, a mobile phone call cost just about $4 million per minute.

So what do you think about this current money situation in Zimbabwe? DO you think anyone is still in control of the situation? Personally I don't think so, they have failed and they should just leave. Until when whilst people are suffering like this and the only solution they authorities have is to print more useless notes.

I'm interested in what you have to say leave your comment.

Big Brother - Makosi back at it Again

>> 04 May 2008

This is probably not something new with Makosi or rather something to surprise anyone. But maybe only to this guy who was dump enough to believe and trust her, which Britain has he been living all along. I think he only got himself to blame. Well, apparently a certain Tom Wojtkun is accusing Makosi of dumping her before their wedding .... after fleecing him of £75 000.00.

Makosi Musambasi achieved 'fame' after appearing on that reality TV show Big Brother, where untalented individuals do outrageous things all in the name of entertainment. Love of money makes people do stupid things sometimes.

So, this Mr Tom Wojtkun claims he spend every penny he could on gifts during a 15 month relationship, including a Mercedes. Makosi is said to have told him she was a virgin and they could not have sex before marriage. Whoaw!
Whats wrong with these guys? Now he claims he faces bankruptcy, after spending £25 000 on the wedding plans, £16 000 on the Merc, £6000 on Makosi's car fines, £30 000 on deposit on a house. Two weeks before the wedding he was dumped.

This guy doesn't get much sympathy from me, I'm sorry but he knew what he was getting himself into. So he should just be man enough, and admit he got what he deserves.

Zimbabwe Dollar exchange rate falls after currency flotation

Is this the kick in the back side that our Zimbabwean dollar needed? After the change of policy by the Reserve Bank from the fixed exchange rate to the willing buyer willing seller policy on Wednesday, black market exchange rates have been falling. From a high rate of £1 to ZW$420 million, the rate has fallen to as low as £1 to ZW$240 million. Who could have thought the exchange rate can drop by half in a few days.

The sudden and massive drop in the exchange rate surely caught some of us in the diaspora by surprise. That was a major drop in the value of the money we send back home. I was probably lucky to get someone changing at just over 400 million.

Do you think the exchange rate will continue falling in reaction to the change in policy by the Reserve Bank. Could this be the end of the black market?
I doubt it, I don't think the fall in exchange rates will last long. This might just be a short term reaction in the exchange rate market, the rate will surely start rising again. But some individual black market traders will find themselves out of business.

Zimbabwe Election 2008 Latest: Robert Mugabe down but not yet out

>> 02 May 2008

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission finally announced the results of the presidential election held on March 29, which finally confirm that Mugabe lost the election.
Morgan Tsvangirai ............47.9 percent
Robert Mugabe ................43.2percent
Simba Makoni .................8.3 percent
The above results show that no candidate got the majority of the total vote cast of 50 percent or more, a second election will now be held on a date to be announced by the commission. The rules say the election re-run should be within 21 days. However there have been rumours that it could be longer.

Friday 02 May we finally got the latest but not so latest results of the Zimbabwe presidential election 2008, we already knew of all these figures they are giving us. But the commission had to make an announcement, anyone still trust this is an independent commission or is it a Zanu PF organisation?

The opposition MDC called the announcement of the long-delayed result "scandalous daylight robbery". I agree with them, otherwise what else could explain this long delay in releasing the results. The MDC executive will meet to discuss the results, but there isn't much choice but to take part in the election re-run. If Tsvangirai refuses to take part, Mugabe will be declared the winner.

So what's next for Zimbabwe? Already there have been reports of violence against MDC supporters perpetrated by Zanu PF supporters and government militias (so called green bombers). But why do they have to resort to beating people up? What crime have they committed? They crime is because they allowed their hunger to affect their thinking and they voted for Tsvangirai. How dare they vote for the British puppet, Mugabe and his old guard and some young misguided elements were stunned, but they saw it coming. They can't say they don't know that people are suffering.

Hopefully people will still be brave enough to go out and vote whenever the election is going to be held. If the politicians come with their food or whatever method of vote buying, they should gladly take it. What matters is what happens in the ballot both. Are we now on the final leg, is Morgan still capable of throwing that all important knock out punch and send Mugabe into retirement?

Zimbabwe begins verification of presidential election 2008 results

>> 01 May 2008

I think finally we are a step closer to getting the presidential results. Officials began verifying the results of the March 29 elections on Thursday. Meaning we are a step closer to getting the results. The long delay in releasing the results has raised fears of increased violence and the opposition MDC has accused the government of trying to rig the election results.

Verification of the results taking place at the Harare International Conference Centre is meant to ensure all candidates are happy with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission's figures. However whether we are going to get the result soon, is still another matter this depends on whether the two parties agree.

"This process can take a day, a week, even two weeks. It depends on whether we can agree and can tally our figures," said Chris Mbanga, Morgan Tsvangirai's representative at the vote verification.

Feel free to contribute to this and other posts.
