Tension, anticipation, delayed results and vote rigging in Zimbabwe Elections

>> 31 March 2008

Why Zimbabwe? Taneta nekugara musango hama dzedu dzichidya nhoko dzezvironda ku Zimbabwe!!

Elections closed Saturday 7pm. End of the day Monday only results from 66 constituencies announced. Is there something going on that we haven't been told? The whole nation waits, very anxiously for the results of probably the most important election in the life of the long suffering Zimbabweans since independence.

Is the rigging machine at work? I don't know how you see it! How can one be a player and referee in the same game. Let's be serious, everyone knows the election results.

Why play with people's emotions? The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission should just give people the results. Morgan Tsvangirayi and MDC won the election period! People know the results, Zanu PF know the results, MDC know the results, nearly everyone know the results. Some may want to argue, some are saying let's wait for the results being announced by the Zanu PF government! Give me a break!
Zanu PF lost and lost big time!

The pattern of results announced, even for those few seats it has been MDC, Zanu PF, MDC, Zanu PF. Why announce results in such a pattern?
Zimbabweans are not happy, talking to people in Zimbabwe they know who won. Results are in the public domain after being posted at polling station. So anyone can read for themselves and they know who won.

There are reports that Zanu PF is now planning to announce a re-run of the presidential election Tuesday. Why would Zanu PF settle for a re-run you may ask?
They know they lost the elections but are they prepared to go out just like that? Without a fight? you must be kidding, they have degrees in violence. But this time the defeat margin has been too much to rig for an outright victory, so the best way out. NO outright winner, then re-run after 20 days.
Is that good enough?

There are reports, some guys in the command centre threatened to resign Monday afternoon because of severe discrepancies in actual results and official results.

The situation, is if you are not an MP, then no ministerial post. This explains why those Zanu PF heavyweights who lost the elections will support rigging of elections. All those Zanu PF bigwigs lost, results are being manufactured to cater for these guys. See how the less influential ministers will be sacrificed!

Life in Zimbabwe is tough, and the people have spoken through the ballot. Diaspora, those economic refugees in different countries, even in China they also want to go home. We are fade-up ne kugara musango!

Latest from Zimbabwe - Zanu PF on it's way Out!

This probably explains news blackout in Zimbabwe. Why they are not announcing the results that nearly everyone seems to know? Currently latest results show MDC with 95 seats, Zanu PF 40, Independent/MDC Mutambara 20.

However they will try to explain the delay in announcing the election results, nobody seems to care. People want results and Zanu PF out.

From what people are saying the time for change has come, and finally change is here. A lot of stories where flying around since yesterday, there were reports of Eliot Manyika shooting someone in Bindura (sad looser).

Alos Mugabe's sister Sabina died, confirmed this morning.

But it just shows how fast information spreads in these days with all the latest technology.

Is Zanu PF finally out with all their degrees in violence? Feel free to contribute by posting your comment.

Zimbabwe Elections 2008 - Military and the election results

>> 30 March 2008

Disturbing!

Zimbabwe is a country of peace loving people. So why try to provoke people?
People already know election results because they have been posted on various polling stations.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission should just announce the results. Now there are reports that the military has stopped all results being announced? Other reports say the military chiefs are preparing to brief Mugabe to accept defeat? They maybe unconfirmed reports, but whose is causing all this speculation and confusion?

Lets hope they are not going to cheat!

Zimbabwe Elections 2008 : Latest Elections Results

Confussion, Confussion and more confussion!!!!

"What is happening in Zimbabwe regarding the election results is surely disturbing. All this time they are not announcing the results, is only causing confusion. People know the results, the people have spoken through their votes, but for some other reasons it seems someone is trying to cook the vote".

Vote counting probably finished by now in the Zimbabwe elections. Here I will keep collecting the latest elections results from Zimbabwe. Early results seems to show a win for Tsvangirayi's MDC. MDC is said to have won 28 seats in Harare with only one seat to be confirmed.
There are also reports indicating that most current Zimbabwe Ministers have been swept away by the tide of change. Eliot Manyika, Zvinavashe, Vice President Mujuru, Mutasa, Muchinguri they are all said to have lost the election.

These were constituences announced ealier on by the MDC. Currently there are also reports that 81 constituences have been confirmed and MDC Morgan Tsvangirayi won 73 seats, Zanu PF 7 and MDC Mutambara 1.

Constituencies won by MDC - Morgan Tsvangirayi

Zimbabwe Elections 2008!

>> 29 March 2008

Zimbabweans have gone to the polls to elect the next president in one of the countrys most important election since independence.

As voting has closed now in Zimbabwe, comes the long wait for results. It's anxious times! There has been allegations of vote rigging by the opposition, however President Mugabe in a video interview disputed this after voting in Highfield.

Early indications seems to show a peaceful election and I have also spoke to relatives and friends who have voted today. They didn't have much problems, even though a number of people could not find their names on the voters roll.

As for the outcome, we have to wait and see!

Zimbabwe Election 2008 - Is this the most important election in Zimbabwe in recent years?

>> 28 March 2008

Like many other Zimbabwe economic refugees around the world. We can only wish, hope and pray since we are not allowed to exercise our right to choose the next president of our country. The final hour has arrived, in a few hours Zimbabwe goes to the polls to choose the next president. In what is seen as the most important election since independence in 1980.
Morgan Tsvangirayi, Simba Makoni and President Mugabe, they have all promised during their campaign rallies. Buses, tractors, diesel and many other things have been donated during this campaign period. But is it that the politicians just choose to ignore the real issues affecting the people? Here I will share with you some of the issues affecting Zimbabwe as the people choose the next leader of the country.

Thanks to technology, Zimbabweans can share messages of encouragement, messages of hope and discuss the real issues as we go to vote for the next president. Here is an extract from an email I got from a friend recently.

Kana mo voter murangarire izvi vadikani (remember this when you go to vote).

Tafara and Mabvuku have had no water, electricity or functional sewerage system for 7months. The whole sewerage system has collapsed and nobody is doing anything about it.
The lids on the manholes in the streets are lifting and raw human excrement is flowing in the streets - the stench in unbelievable.

The people have attempted to dig a type of canal so that the filth can flow into a pit which is full of sewerage. Their only source of water is a well which is about 10 feet away from this stinking pit.

42 people have died from diseases such as dysentery. Human excrement is flowing out of the resident's toilets and into their back yards where they grow their vegetables. They can't use their toilets any more because they can't even open the door to get in and they can't clean anything because they don't have enough water.

In the picture on the right, what looks like paving stones is actually dried human excrement, 6 inches deep and they are growing their mealies in it.

Raw sewage is lying stagnant around the shops, butcheries and schools and vendors are selling fruit and vegetables in the midst of all this waste.

In the picture to the right, the people who live here cannot enter their premises through the front gate because of the sewerage blocking the entrance. They have to go next door and climb over the fence.
Really I've never been so disgusted in all my life. This a crime against humanity. Nobody should be expected to live in conditions like this. I think it needs to be exposed.

The only way is to go and vote and vote wisely.

Tsvangirayi, Makoni or Mugabe? The battle to be the next Zimbabwe President

>> 24 March 2008

Like every other true Zimbabwean, I pay close attention to what is happening in the country. I always try to keep myself up to date with developments in our land of milk and honey. Even though some few individuals have decided to have all the milk and honey to themselves. The law of the jungle is now the order of the day in Zimbabwe. Survival of the fittest, survival of those who are brave or is it survival of the most corrupt. This week will probably one of the most defining periods in the history of Zimbabwe.
March 29 has been declared a public holiday to allow people to take part in one of the major events about to take place in Zimbabwe. The much awaited Presidential elections on the 29th of March. So who is the real deal whose has got the X-Factor? Tsvangirayi, Makoni or Mugabe?

Like many Zimbabwe economic refugees all over the world, the Internet is a major source of information.
Sometimes I visit forums and different news sites, but in most cases these sites either lean drastically to one side or the other and some people in these forums just verbally abuse each other. That's why I don't spend as much time in forums. I also try to have an open mind whenever I visit news sites. My favorite news sites are zwnews and news24.

But as election fever grips Zimbabwe. Uncertainty, confusion and fear of the unknown is the order of the day in Zimbabwe.
What is going to happen after the election? What are the chances for change? Because change seems to be what most people in the land of milk and honey are waiting for. The other day the army generals were saying they won't salute either Tsvangirayi or Makoni? Which is why we have to ask this question, What if changes is on the way?

So what if change does not come? Tsvangirayi, Makoni and many other people in Zimbabwe fear elections will be rigged and they are not going to be free and fair.
So with the current state of the economy, it's recovery seems to be directly linked to the outcome of the coming elections. Most people seem to be saying only a change of government will bring about economic recovery. How far true that is, it's subject to debate.

But who is the real deal? Who has got the Z-Factor, Tsvangirayi, Makoni or Mugabe. The resurgent and rejuvenated Morgan Tsvangirayi who has had a lot of beatings over the years for his troubles. He has been fighting for the cause with the people for years now. Does he have what it takes to win the peoples votes?

Simba Makoni, the 'new kid' on the block. He commands a lot of respect, in Zimbabwe and internationally. But did he wait until late to join the race for state house? And again why join late? Why didn't he express his intentions to run for presidency until the last minute? Does he have what it takes to win the peoples vote?

And the President, in power since independence in 1980. All those years in power, surely people have enough experience with him and his policies to be able to make an informed choice. They know his record, they have experienced how he has managed the economy. So, is the vote going to be the same like has been the case in the past elections?

Sadomba gets Millions of zimpapers as Dynamos FC beat Mozambique Champions

Gone are the days when Zimbabwe footballers used to enjoy that celebrity status. Gone are the days when they used to live flashy lives. Those days they earned real money, at least it was paying to be a footballer. I never heard of supporters throwing millions of dollars to footballers, save for the few hooligans who attack players with coins.
Dynamos FC striker Edward Sadomba was showered with bank notes after scoring a hat-trick for the Zimbabwe champions against Mozambique champions Costa do Sol in a Africa Champions League game at Gwanzura Stadium.
Dynamos won 3-0 courtesy of the hat-trick by Sadomba in this first leg game at Gwanzura Stadium.

Last week Dynamos FC supporters threw about 800 million dollars to Leornard Tsipa after he was expelled in the Harare derby. Even for someone who has been shown a red card, these supporters still give money?
Can't help but feel sorry for Zimbabwe footballers WAG (wives and girlfriends). We can not even compare them to the English WAGs where it's more like a career.

Like many other Zimbabweans, football players are suffering from the effects of the collapsing economy.

Stop Complaining, Work Hard and Enjoy Life!

>> 18 March 2008

We know things are very bad in Zimbabwe at the moment. There is a severe food shortage and other basic commodities. The economy is on it's knees. The country is going back to the dark ages with no electricity everyday. The forth coming elections have brought more confusion and uncertainty to the country. And it seems people are now in a hopeless situation, where they feel sorry for themselves and don't try to improve their lives. What makes people adopt a lets wait and see attitude and at the same time complaining about how bad things are in the country.
People should start working to improve their situation and stop complaining.

"Mbudzi inofurira payakasungirirwa", literally meaning a goat will only graze around that area where it's tied to. So why is it that people don't make the most of what's available in their places of work to improve their lives.
Is it only myself who get fade up with people complaining that they spend most of their time at work, where they are not adequately rewarded for their work.
I'm not encouraging people to steal, but there is a way of benefiting from your place of work rather than waiting for pay at the end of the month. There are other work places like funeral parlours, there isn't anything to take home, but 'aye. If it's not rewarding enough it's better to get out.

If you have access to a product which you can make money from, why not use it to improve your life? Buy cheap and resale at a profit. True, some work in places where there is nothing to buy for resale. But then what's the point of knowing someone in that all important food company? Why not use those connections to get something for resale. Is it laziness or what?
Some people go to neighbouring countries, South Africa, Botswana and Mozambique to buy goods they sale to these same people who are just sitting and complaining about how bad their situation is! All it takes is just a weekend to go to Mozambique and back.

People are complaining about how prices are going up everyday. Of course they will keep going up. With inflation said to be around 150 000%, surely the only way for prices is up! So people should stop complaining and start working. No one is going to come and help them. God help those who help themselves!

Is it surprising that even with the current problems in Zimbabwe, some people are driving the latest cars. Some may say it's corruption, but once again one need to be able to adapt, learn to live in a corrupt world.
Zimbabwe's economy is on it's knees, supermarket shelves are empty, most commodities are only available on the black market. Corruption is now the fuel of life, so is it really possible not to be corrupt when you are living in a corrupt environment?

19 Scandals that destroyed Zimbabwe!

>> 17 March 2008

Ever wondered how Zimbabwe came to be what it is like today? We now have a $10 000 000.00 which can not even buy a pint of beer. Zimbabwe a country which once had such a vibrant economy. A country which was once the bread basket of Africa. A country which was once able to feed it's people. Now the country is suffering sever food shortages, and shortages of other basic commodities. There is no foreign currency, no fuel, no cash in banks and many Zimbabweans are now economic refugees in different countries all over the world.
I came across a paper presented by Dr Shana showing some of the high profile corruption cases involving senior government officials.

Here is a list of the high profile corruption cases during that crucial period when the economy was destroyed. Things were out of control and are still out of control. Was anyone prosecuted for all this? Was anyone ever held accountable for all these scandals? No wonder the country is in such a mess.

True Lies, Deceptions and Zimbabwe Elections

>> 14 March 2008

Why I don't like politicians?

Suddenly there is a lot of activity in Zimbabwe's villages. The kind of activity last seen in 2002. Politicians do lie, but what is it that make them lie over and over again to the same people? Or is there something wrong with the people who are lied to over and over again? Why is it that people do not think about all these nice things said to them only during election campaign time? Is it that people don't know that the power is in their hands? Their vote is the greatest weapon against these political lies. With the current situation in Zimbabwe, all the problems faced by the people of Zimbabwe, politicians should be ashamed of themselves for liying to the people again. And the people should be ashamed of themselves for voting for the same people who lie to them over and over again.

So, what can make one this angry? Very simple, despite all the problems that people have been experiencing all these past years nobody paid any attention. People have been facing severe transport problems. People wait for long hours in queues waiting for transport to go to work. But suddenly, villagers get 23 buses because it's election time. So all this time these politicians did not know that people have no transport, if they did why didn't they do anything about it?
If bus operators are withdrawing because of poor roads, why is it that nothing is being done to repair the roads. Is it not the bad state of the economy which, shortage of foreign currency which means bus operators can not afford to buy spare parts. There is no sabotage here like politicians want us to believe.

Suddenly villagers get 500 tractors and thousands of Ox drawn pluoghs. Of all the months why in the middle of March when the farming season is coming to an end. This year most Zimbabwean villagers face severe food shortages again despite the good rains this season. Why is it that these villagers can not see beyond these lies. Where are they goin to get the fuel from? That is if they will ever see these tractors. How many are going to ever see these tractors in their fields? The villagers should just go back to their homes and work rather than listening to these pure lies.

And the Vice President lamented the lack of irrigation facilities in Wedza and at the same time praising them for starting the land invasions. Who is supposed to provide the farming equipment to the villagers?
Didn't these same people took all the equipment that was left in some of the farms and sale, even though some of it may have been stollen at least some one should be held responsible for that.

So, how good is a computer donation to schools where there are no teachers? That is if they even have computer trained teachers in those schools. Even though this is a very welcome donation surely not only at every election time. Is this not vote buying that other parties are always talking about?
When teachers ask for a salary increment, nobody listens to them but come election time they get huge salary increases because most of them are polling officers in the villages. Even the learned teachers how can they be lied to over and over agian?

As for the traditional chiefs, well they are used to their pamperred lives whilst the rest of the people in their areas suffer. Now they get a drum of diesel each, whilst the rest of the villagers can not travel because of the high travelling costs, shortage of transport because of lack of fuel and spare parts. And the Chiefs are chauffer driven in government provided cars.
All this so they can make sure all the people under them vote the 'right' way.

And what happened when the President met his former pupils in Zvishavane? "There was applause as they (the former pupils) trudged along from their seats and went up the podium to greet the President. Ironically, some of the grey haired pupils are now walking with difficulty compared to their teacher".
Why give trouble to a group of poor and impoverished old man and women, over worked all these years and have nothing to show for all their troubles.

Nothing lasts forever, surely one day all these problems people are faced with shall come to pass. Even though it may take time we can only hope things will get better. How I wish we could live in a world without politicians.

March 29, the Day Zimbabwe will not go to sleep

>> 12 March 2008

Such will be the expectation come March 29. Could this be one of the most important days in the history of Zimbabwe since independence? Zimbabwe face one of it's defining moments as the country goes to vote for the next President, MPS and Senators. There is so much at stake in these elections, history will judge us and we will be accountable to future generations for whatever happens on this all important election. The country is suffering from severe economic problems and Zimbabweans have not suffered from economic problems as much as what is happening now.

As Zimbabweans go to vote, it is time to vote for someone who will represent the interests of Zimbabweans. It's a pity in most cases the election campaigns in Zimbabwe are characterised by personal attacks by candidates. It is characterised by violence among some unguided elements influenced by some greedy politicians who want to win at all costs and then forget about the same people who voted them into office.

Everybody should have an equal right to vote for the candidate of their own choice in a FREE and FAIR election. This include all Zimbabweans scattered all over the world. Why should they be denied the right to vote?
Is it because all Zimbabweans in foreign countries will vote for the opposition? I'm not sure about that? But however the election is about bread and butter issues, the real issues affecting peoples lives.

Is the election about Zimbabwe against the West? Is it about the ruling Zanu government against foreign funded opposition?
Here are some of the important issues to think about as Zimbabwe goes to vote:

1. Food shortages
2. No electricity and Water
3. Crumbling Infrastructure
4. Crumbling Economy
5. 150 000 percent inflation
6. Foreign currency shortages
7. State of education in the country
8. State of the agricultural sector
9. The effect of Nationalisation and Indegenisation of companies
10. Company clossures
11. Poor Health delivery

Latest exchange rate £1 to $80 million Zimbabwean Dollars.

Zimbabwe Elections 2008 Funding Scandals

>> 08 March 2008

As we slowly approach that all important day, March 29. The day when Zimbabweans go to the polls to elect the country's' next President, MPs, Senators and councilors. What exactly is the role or interests of foreign governments in Zimbabwe elections. Are they really interested in the welfare of Zimbabweans or they just want regime change?

It is okay for foreign governments to fund opposition parties in Zimbabwe, BUT when the government gives food to starving villagers in Uzumba, Lupane, Kezi or Marange we hear a lot of noise about a desperate party using food to buy votes and stay in power at all costs. Should people starve because giving them food will be seen as vote buying? Should all food distributions stop because it's election time? Food distribution should be to everyone regardless of political affiliation. It doesn't matter whether you are Ndebele, Shona, Kalanga or Zezuru the government has got a duty to every Zimbabwean.

So why should it be okay for foreign governments to fund opposition parties in Zimbabwe? Zimbabwe like all other countries has laws on funding of political parties, that's why I find it a bit strange for the British government to openly say that it is funding Zimbabwean opposition parties which is against the law. So how does the British government justify funding of political parties in Zimbabwe? Surely there should be better uses for the British tax payers money!
So what would Peter Hain say about this? He was forced to quit after that political funding scandal.

Why is Britain so much interested about regime change in Zimbabwe? Why are they so much interested about who is elected the next President of Zimbabwe? Are they genuinely concerned about the welfare of the suffering Zimbabweans. Is Zimbabwe elections not a matter for Zimbabweans to decide? It is up to Zimbabweans to decide who they want to be the next President without outside interference. Foreign governments can play neutral observing role but not those who are interested parties in the game. Just wondering how the British government would react to the American government funding the Conservative Party's' election campaign.

We want FREE and FAIR elections but within the laws of the land. Which should also be free and fair to everybody.

The Ups and Downs of the Zimbabwe Dollar

>> 07 March 2008

Just a day after I had send money to Zimbabwe at the exchange rate of £1 to $60 000 000.00 Zimbabwean dollars. Yesterday the rate fell to $50 million Zimbabwean dollars to £1. Is it that the Zimbabwean dollars is 'gaining' value against the British pound? Hell NO! it's just the usual ups and downs of the Zimbabwean dollar over the years.

It is very unfortunate that for the past few years there have been no signs of the Zimbabwean dollars gaining against any other major trading currencies. In fact it has been on free fall. The Zimbabwean dollar is currently trading at more than $25 000 000.00 to 1US dollar.
Despite all the efforts by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to control the foreign currency problems in the country. Their efforts don't seem to be enough or helping the current situation.

In case we forget, this is even after the Reserve Bank removed three zeros from the currency last year. So is the Zimbabwean dollar currently trading at $55 Billion dollars to one British pound?

For how long will this situation remain like this?

The exchange rate has risen so high, surely it's bound to fall at some point. Not just the current ups and downs.
But? is the government trying enough, with the right policies to control this forex problem that has reduced the country to a laughing stock.
How do people go about their day to day transactions with such large sums of bank notes? Probably the Reserve Bank may already be working on introducing another higher denomination note to reduce the amount of notes people carry. Even after the introduction of the $10 000 000.00 bank note in January.

It's embarrassing even to mention these figures. But today the Zimbabwean dollar is trading at $55 million to one British pound. Crazy!

Forex Watch - £1 now equal to $60 000 000.00 in Zimbabwe

>> 06 March 2008

Our Zimbabwean Dollar has been on free fall for some months with no signs of recovering. Surely things could not get worse, at least most of us thought. How wrong we were?
Mr Gono the Reserve Bank governor came in with a big reputation and many promises to fix the economic problems. Everybody expected the money problems of the country to be solved. How wrong we were or was it blind faith? Things are even worse than when he came into office.

It's now very easy to be a multimillionaire in Zimbabwe. £1 is now equivalent to $60 million Zimbabwean dollars and 1 US dollar is currently trading at about $25 million Zimbabwean dollars.

What does the future have for Zimbabweans as we approach the elections?

It's now illegal to possess more than $500 million cash in Zimbabwe!

>> 05 March 2008

According to a new regulation published in Zimbabwe, anyone found in possession of more than $500 million will be guilty of 'unlawfull hoarding'. The government has made it illegal to possess just $500 million which is less than £10 on today's exchange rate.

Surely how does the government expect people to go about their day today business? The government is trying to control the free fall of the Zimbabwean dollar, but are they fighting a losing battle?

Faced with a high rate of inflation said to be over 150 000 percent, the money authorities don't seem to know how to control the situation. Prices change everyday, the Zimbabwean doillar is losing value against major currencies everyday. In fact nobody wants this Zimbabwe dollar anymore.

Is the country now run on trial and error basis?

All the efforts by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to control the money situation have failed. People still wait for long hours to get their money from the bank, so how does making it illegal to have $500 million solve the problem. Forcing people to carry money which does not buy anything will not help.

Is it that the government does not care about the people anymore?

UK government backs ban on Zimbabwe cricket tour!

>> 04 March 2008

So the British government is still considering a ban on the Zimbabwe cricket tour!
I thought they have more serious issues to deal with in their own country than wasting time thinking of the Zimbabwe cricket tour.
According to the BBC's Inside Sport programme, the British government is still looking at options to stop next year's Zimbabwe cricket tour, including banning all Zimbabwean Sports men and women from competing in Britain.

What is the business of British politicians in sporting issues? They should concentrate on the political issues affecting their country and the British people. They should be dealing with the rising crime on the streets, all those teenagers killed on the streets of London every month. They should be talking about the MPs shredding important documents to hide their abuse of tax payers money. They should be talking about the economic problems facing their country, not wasting time on Zimbabwe cricket.

When are they going to stop trying to punish these young sports people for what they are not responsible for? Are they responsible for the economic problems in Zimbabwe? Are they responsible for the so called human rights abuses in the country? Are they responsible for the not so free and fair elections. These boys are not responsible for the current situation in the country and neither are they part of it. So they should be allowed to exercise their right to take part in international competitions. As do other members of the International Cricket Council.

So are they going to stop Benjani Mwaruwari from playing football for Manchester City? This is just crazy. In the townships we say "Stop this political nonsense Mr Brown". As for David Cameroon, he should be thinking about how to get to No 10 Downing Street. He should be talking about the real bread and butter issues affecting the British people rather than gain cheap political millage at the expense of Zimbabwe sports people.
